August 20th, 2005 - Muh
Preordered a PSP the other day, thought it'd be the wisest thing to do considering that I got a bunch of screen protectors already. Also, it might be hard to get one, or something. Hmmm, the european PSP comes with 2.0 firmware though, hmmmm.
Anyway, I checked out The Island <:)
The Island
No fancy stuff, just saying what I think. Around first half of it is pretty good, its some of the usual "paranoia/we're being watched/is this the real world?" that so many movies today has. Its okay though, although you cant shake the feeling that you've seen it before. Anyway, second half is pretty much just action. Michael Bay is pretty good at this (if nothing else), but the action sequences in The Island just felt kinda empty afterwards, even though theres alot of stuff happening. There were a few exceptions though, and for the most part that part worked relativly okay. Also some of the sequences felt like they were taken straight out of Bad Boys 2, yikes.
Its just that the first and second parts didnt really feel like the same movie. It felt more like 2 movies that had been slapped together, and the action was there just to deliver something for the thrill seeking audience.
So yeah, its pretty much what I expected. Its got some Big Brother'ish stuff going on, some action, Ewan McGreggor with a funny American accent, and Scarlet Johansson being the über hotness. Not too bad actually, but you wont really miss much by not seeing it.

August 17th, 2005 - The usual...
Been giving Battlefield 2 some more deserved time. Already up at my usual self again, just took a few games. Hate it when you get these breaks from games that you're still interested in, but its purely for other matters than lack of interest. So yeah.
Ive also been watching an absoulte massive dose of Mythbusters. I totally love this show, and after watching one I just want another. I seriously think I could sit and entire day and just watch em and still ask for more :). Anyway, its really cool that Discovery Channel has one on every evening, especially since I cant find them for download D:
Oh yeah I also ordered some screen protectors for the PSP. Thats even though I havent gotten a PSP yet, but theres nothing wrong with being prepared :)
August 15th, 2005 - Bling!
Just a quick update to show that Im not dead. Been firing up a bit with the Battlefield 2'ness. Sucked horribly a few days ago, now im back rockin! (or something). Still figuring out stuff with Arbogast!
Anyway, links!

Thought I had another link, but I cant remember it. How Embarressing D:
August 10th, 2005 - Cricket!
I've kinda put my Half-Life 2 map on hold, as I'm rethinking what I want to do with the rest of the map. Thats the wonderful thing about deathmatch maps, you dont really need a solid layout to make the map. At least thats my philosophy regarding deathmatch design, and its worked out fine so far.
Anyway, I need to mention that Burnout 4 (Revenge, PAH! Like Im gonna call it that!). Its going to be out in little over a month, and its going to shake the very foundations of our society....TWO TIMES. Its big, real big. Burnout 3 more or less layed our team at IO in ruins for a week or so, or at least it felt like that :). But its my fear that unless I get my map done before its release, then Im gonna be knocked out of my recent mapping spree, and that map shall once again lie around and gather dust.
Hmmmm.
Oh yeah I got my fingers on Home Alone. Been wanting to check it out for ages. Haven't seen it in like 10 year or something, I reckon its gonna be a terrifying experience, although I hope the opposite.
Lastly, why cant more commercials be like this one?
August 7th, 2005 - Flaktaffery!
So, been mapping quite alot the past week. Still a long way to go at this pacing, doubt my first assessment that I would be done by the end of this month, but its looking quite good.
What isnt helping me getting it done is my newly found love for the Discovery Channel program, Mythbusters. Until a few weeks ago I hadnt heard of it, but after some of the guys at work showed it to me my interest grew swiftly.
Anybody who has seen the show knows that its good stuff since its great fun and you actually learn stuff. Also they blow up stuff whenever they get the chance, which is quite often :D
So if you havent already seen it then consider yourself advised now.
Also, after I saw a fella at work play some Viewtiful Joe, I really wanted to have another go at it. Its with great shame that I can say that I bought the game, but only played it for around 10 minutes. This is another example of why you simply shouldnt buy more games at once, and in this case not buy 4 games at once. But so far its been great, and Im really glad I finally gave it another try.
August 2nd, 2005 - Okay enough ;)

Enough with the single shots for now. Just thought it would be neater to constrain myself and only release a few pictures slowly. Expect more soon.

July 30th, 2005 - At last!
Been working quite a bit on my Half-Life 2 map, so expect some pictures of it very soon :)
July 27th, 2005 - On Pursuit!
I vaguely remember seeing a trailer from this game a while ago, but I only just recently realized how fucking cool it looks when I saw it on my Gamespot DVDs. I mean, the idea of having hi-speed pursuits, and then having your guy jump on other vehicles and fighting them on em, and then suddenly jump on a chopper and gun them down. Looks pretty damn sweet, especially for a PSP game.
Check out the trailer at Gamespot, and IGN (Guh) has some more movies from it.
Oh and Doom movie teaser trailer.....eh
July 26th, 2005 - Familiar!
Checked out the Family Guy movie. To be honest then it wasnt as good as I had hoped for. Thats not to say that its bad though. Lots of cool bits, and its certainly worth your time even if you just remotely like Family Guy. However it did feel too much like three 30 minute episodes packed into one long movie, which it obviously is. It is pretty good fun though, but to be honest then I'd rather have had 3 good episodes rather than one long one.
July 24th, 2005 - This, is the good shit
Got my Gamespot E3 DVD set the other day. Been watching alot of it, especially that Electric Showdown feature movie is quite cool. Certainly recommendable to anybody that wants to check the stuff from E3 while lying down ;)
And so, as my once so seemingly never ending vacation draws to an end, I believe it is time to put out the verdict on what Ive spend most my vacation on....
Battlefield 2
You know what Im gonna say. I fucking love these kinds of games. Huge open areas is the new hotness.
Battlefield 2 is the best looking game out at the moment. With the right specs (in my case the best), this game looks mindblowing. With maps that ranges from tight middle-eastern cities to huge open chinese country sides, then this game has an amazing and truely stunning variation in its locations. Also all the different soldiers, weapons, tanks, choppers, planes......you name it, looks absoultely fantastic. This is as good as it gets on a PC today, which means as good as it gets period.
And the audio, maaan. Theres nothing quite like standing around, just listening to wind and windows rattling in the distance, and then suddenly just hear a huge tank roll in and drop fire on you. And the sound scape is amazingly varied. Another sound that I simply cant stop being impressed with is the sound of flares being shot out of a plane, so awesome!
Then theres the gameplay, first and foremost. You could've thought that they would just do port of Battlefield 1942 with a visual upgrade. Well, far from it.
You really do need to play it to understand what it means to have squads and a commander, but lets just say that when you play with people as determined and into it as you, and you got good people watching you back, or giving orders, then this is the best you've experienced in a game to date. It is truely stunning to have a squad of people that really work together attack different placements. Combine that with having more squads, and a competent commander and this is without a doubt one of the best experiences you'll get playing a game.
Another nice feature is when you play on ranked servers, you gain experience and awards from things you do. This experience will eventually lead you to a level up, at which you can upgrade your primary weapon in one of the 7 weapon kits. A really nice feature that also motivates you to go after that other weapon you want :D
But okay, Battlefield 2 does have some flaws. If you want to call some of them flaws that is. The first one is obvious from the start: The server browser is absoultely shite. Its really worthless, and combined with the fact that most external server browsers dont work very well with the Login based entry of Battlefield 2, then you're pretty much forced into using it. You'll get over it though, both because its gotten better with the latest patch, but also because the game is simply so good.
Secondly. You cant change the nature of the internet. You'll often play with absoultely fucktwats that never join squads, and always go the lone wolf path. People that make a squad, with lots of people joining it, but never give any orders. This really piss me off, because I love playing squad leader, and when you just see a moron like this waste it.....well, I just want to kill more stuff :). These people have obviously misunderstood the idea of squad leaders. Although they are mobile spawn points, then their role is mainly to direct orders from the commander, or to evulate the battlefield and give orders themselves (which is often what you need to do, since most commanders leave you to yourself).
Well, its obvious that the problems with Battlefield 2
is in the very stupidity of the human race. But rest assured, although this problem has always, and will always exsist, Battlefield 2 narrows it, and has the best teamplay ever seen in a game on this scale.
If you dont like action, tactics, open areas or fun, dont buy this game.
If you do like these, you probably already have it ;)

July 23rd, 2005 - Batmondo!
Saw Batman Begins yesterday, bligiblag!
Batman Begins
So yeah, same story again. Bruce Wayne's parents are murdered, however this time we get more insight in how he handles his anger, and most importantly his fears. Its a much more indepth look at the character than what was seen in Tim Burton's movies, and especially Joel Schumacher's.
Its also in my opinion better than all of their movies, even Burton's original. The popular thing with bringing down the comic book characters more down to earth and revealing their weaknesses works quite well with Batman as well. It is a really well done movie, which ranks up amounts the best of the now rather abundant number of super hero movies. However its not without its flaws.
The first half of the movie has alot to go through, and it does so very well. However it loses some of its momentum in the second half. Much of the story story drowns, and I found that the bad guys evil plot was kinda rushed upon you and didnt really fall in right with the pacing of the first half.
Also the fight scenes. I really like the idea they worked out from. The idea of seeing everything from the bad guy's point of view does give Batman more of a sinister edge and also follows much of what the first half of the movie tries to tell. However in practice it doesnt really work that well. The point of having fight scenes is to get some adrenaline flowing, and have some suspence growing. But with these confusing fights I was left kind of underwhelmed at times. Would have been great if they had mixed it a bit with some real asskicking, but it was like this through out the entire movie. Perhaps not really a negative point, but a point to be made none the less.
So, a really good movie, though not perfect then its one of the best comic book adaptations Ive seen in a long while, and a really good start on a new series of Batman movies.

July 21st, 2005 - Arbogast!
My Half-Life 2 map is coming along quite nicely. Right now Im just trying to close off the center part of the map so I can get it compiled, so I can post some pics from it :)
Anyway, the other day I checked out Superman 2 again, you know, the one with the latex cladded weirdos that fly around in a mirror :O! But it was quite an experience, because I didnt remember it as being this bad. But its good bad fun, so yeah :) KNEEL BEFORE ZOD SUCKA!
Also, after having all this stuff with Vin Diesel playing Hitman fly around, people mentioned Jason Statham in The Transporter as being pretty much a perfect choice for the role, so I decided to check that one out.
The Transporter
Theres not really that much to say about it. The plot is thin, the action is strong. Its pretty much about a very proffesional guy who lives of transporting people or objects for clients, but when he gets a job where the cargo is a Japanese chick in a bag he slowly begins to break the rules he lives by (and yes, you know what happens).
The first half of the movie is by far the best, some cool car chases and action scenes. Second half is kinda meh. Overall its a pretty good action flick, and yes, I gotta admit that Statham is the spitting image of Hitman in some of this movie ;)

July 16th, 2005 - Half-Life 2 Revisited
The other day I decided that it had been long enough since I had completed Half-Life 2, to give it another playthrough. So, playing through it again I really noticed some things that I hadnt paid that much attention to the first time. The first 2-3 hours of the game looked very unique, and had a general feel of being carefully styled and pretty polished. However, some of the later levels, especially those close to the end of the game really looked......well, how do I put this, horrible. I mean levels that basically consist of simple box rooms with the same texture all over and a few random props shattered around.
It really surprised me how bad some of it looked, but even more that I hadnt noticed it that much the first time through. Im not really thinking about the Combine stuff, since its in their style to be pretty simplistic, but that also did have a feel of being made because it was the fastest way out. Anyway, it just became apparent of how rushed the later parts of the game looked, and most likely have been. The worst part is that this has now affected my overall view on Half-Life 2's graphics.
Speaking of which, Ive gotten some more work done on my Half-Life 2 map. Im really starting to doubt where Ive aimed too high for its openess, and if it will run properly. However I really like the feel of it so far, and I'll post some compiled pictures of it as soon as possible.
July 12th, 2005 - Oh Mai God!
Finally got to play through God of War, since BF2 was apparently fucked up with the latest patch, so yonki yonk!
God of War
So, I had pretty high expectations for this one, and it turned out very nicely.
Its pretty much a general action/puzzle game, but thing that really sets God of War apart is how well made it is, and the cool greek mythology thing its got going.
You play Kratos, a mortal man who with the help of the gods, is to kill Ares, the god of war, who is destroying Athens. Although the story does start off as looking kinda shallow, then it gets alot more indepth and interesting further into the game.
As I said it is set up around battling monsters and solving puzzles. Both are extremely well done, especially the combat which looks absoultely amazing, and has a really neat feel since its extremely easy to control, yet it never feels like you're not in control of what you're doing. Another really sweet thing about the combat, is that when enemies are near death you can perform some context sensitive actions on them, like jumping up on the huge monsters and stabbing them in the head. Priceless. This is however, far more of an action game than a puzzle game.
Also this game probably has the best bosses ever seen in a game to date.
The puzzle parts of GoW are quite well done as well. Although a few of them can get a bit frustrating at times, then they're a good contrast to the combat, and never feel too easy or too hard.
On the visual side then God of War wont disappoint either. For a game today, it looks really cool. For a PS2 game today, it looks fantastic. All the levels, characters, and especially animation of Kratos looks great, and they really got the greek theme into most of the game. The audio is good too, all things like they should be, although I gotta admit that I did get a bit tired of the main theme around the end.
The only bad things that I can say about GoW, was that the camera system did get a bit annoying in some of the platform parts of the game. The camera is point based, and you cant move it, which was really irretating in parts where you couldnt see infront of you. It did cause some deaths a couple of times, but overall the camera system did work quite good in combat, always giving you a good view of the area.
The game also felt a bit short. I completed it in around 6-7 hours, which is pretty short even by todays standards.
But that said, God of War is a terrific experience from start to end, and everybody with with a PS2, and a lust for action should definitely give this one a try.

July 5th, 2005 - You're the man now dog!
Been watching lots of movies, aye aye!
War of the Worlds
Its been strange reading reviews of WotW, because most of them have been pretty negative. However most people that saw it have been saying pretty much the opposite, that it rocks!
I totally loved it. I wont go into too much details, but its an amazingly thrilling movie, that doesnt have one dull moment. 15 minutes into the movie its already going at it, and it goes really good at it :) You really fear the tripods, as they swoop around, it looks so fucking cool. Damn :D. Also I really liked the take that Spielberg took on it. Instead of having a full blown "Army vs. Aliens" ala Independence Day, he takes a look on how a father and his kids try to survive, and as we all know this is familiar grounds for Spielberg.
Also note that this is visually stunning movie. Its pretty damn breathtaking, so make sure you watch it in a good cinema ;)~
Anyway, there was one thing that kinda annoyed my about the end, but apart from that then this is without a doubt the best Spielberg movie in years.
War of the Worlds | 5 georfs out of 5 georfs
Finding Forrester
I wanted to see this movie, simply to experience the scene where Sean Connery says "You're the man now dog" something that now become an internet
phenomenon. However the actual movie was pretty good too. Its about a clever young black guy, Jamal, who gets involved with an old writer, William Forrester. Forrester released one masterpiece of a book, but has since gone underground and now lives a lonely life in his appartment. Through the movie Jamal is influenced, and influence William, and you get to know some of their personalities better.
Its a movie
that gives itself time to let you get to know the characters, and you can feel that its a Gus Van Sant movie, since it does have some of the characteristics of Good Will Hunting.
But yeah, that and the "You're the man now dog" scene is enough reason to see it ;)

Devil's Advocate
Its funny, I actually thought that Constantine was some kind of sequel to this movie, and since I recently saw Constantine I decided to check this one out.
It has nothing to do with Constantine :)
Its about a lawyer, Kevin Lomax (Reeves), who has never lost a case. After getting a guy through that Lomax knows is guilty, he is contacted and hired by a huge law firm in New York. Slowly, after moving there with his wife, and after getting through a couple of cases, things start to mess up real bad.
Anyway, I thought it was really good stuff, some good performances and a story that actually managed to surprise me.
Devil's Advocate| 4 georfs out of 5 georfs
Pearl Harbor
Now that I got alot of time on my hand I decided to watch some movies that I knew were bad, simply because its sometimes alot more fun to talk about bad movies than good ones :)
Anyway, Pearl Harbor deserves all the shit thats been thrown at it. Its an absoulte nightmare. The only bright side of this movie is the few dogfights, which tend to look pretty cool. Apart from that theres nothing good to say about this movie. Usually these Jerry Bruckheimer movies are REALLY stupid, but they are entertaining. This one isnt. Also its too damn long, its amazing that they can make a movie, that basically boils down to a horrible love story, last three hours. Especially the last hour of the movie is completely pointless, and shouldve been cut, no doubt.
Anyway, dont waste your time with this one.....unless you wanna be able to badmouth it ;D

National Treasure
Im not even gonna do this movie the honour of spending time on it describing how bad it is. It is simply put, the worst movie Ive seen since Alien Vs. Predator. Maybe even Dark Water. Dont even watch it if you know its bad, and just expect to have a laugh. Its really depressive to see that big sums of money are being used on crap like this. Dont watch this one, you've been warned.

July 2nd, 2005 - Internets, Helloes!
Avast Thee! My three week summer vacation started yesterday! I shall do many things. My first goal is to finally finish my new site design, and get it up and running. Im almost certain that unless I really take a deep breath and pull myself together, then nothing is gonna happen, even though I really want to get it done.
Secondly I really need to finish my Half-Life 2 Deathmatch map which has soon been under way for one year, since I started it roughly a month after Half-Life 2 was released. But its not really like Ive worked non stop on this, its been my worst case of "on-off" projects. Its not that I lack motivation or ideas, theres just so many games to play and so little time, and its simply a matter of priority at this point. But now I have a shitload of time, so Im quite sure I can get a good bit of it done.
Additionally, Ive had a really original and pretty groundbreaking idea for a HL2 map for a while as well. I wouldnt dream of going into details at this point, but I hope to take a bite on it with these next weeks as well. Although this might start to sound like too much, then I'd love to give Battlefield 2 mapping a shot as well, if they actually get the editor released soon. However I have no ideas for a Battlefield 2 layout, and its my firm believe that you REALLY need to think these layouts through, more than any games. It would be fun though. So Im pretty much up for starting some things and getting creative with my spare time once again, and it does feel good, so Im pretty sure I'll get something done :D
But there are many other things to capture my attention. Lots of movies that I need to watch, and more importantly, games.
After doing that infernal list of the 25 most influencial games I ended up wanting to play many of them. Especially Outcast and Deus Ex. Its funny because Deus Ex is without a doubt the game Ive wanted to replay the most time, ever. But I have restrained myself alot of times. Both because its such a long game, but also because it is one (if not the) of the best games ever made, and I wouldnt dream of playing it too much, such as Ive done with Half-Life (I think Ive completed Half-Life around 15-17 times, plus a couple of half times as well, I know, you think Im joking, I wish I were D:!). And speaking of Half-Life, Half-Life 2 certainly deserves another play through.
So, theres much to do, and reasonably much time.
SHALL I NOT BE VICTORIOUS?
Okay, now its time for some mazzle reviews! ;)
Sahara
To be honest then I dont really know why I saw this, but It wasnt bad actually. For a stupid silly movie it was relativly good, and it was really quite good through most of the movie. The story is about two treasure hunter guys, on the search for a big American Civil War Ironclad that was supposedly stranded in the middle of the Sahara desert. On their way to this, they bump into a WHO doctor chick, who has to go examine some very lethal disease going around. Anyway, without going into too much details then it is stupid, but if you're in the mood for this kinda low thinking stuff then its cool.
Sahara | 2.5 georfs out of 5 georfs

Brødre
This is a danish movie, and although I usually dont include them here in respect of you english speaking visitors, then I thought this one was good enough to make the cut. Its about a couple of brothers (Brødre means brothers in danish), where one of them has just been released from jail, while the other one has to go to Afghanistan, while leaving behind his family. One thing leads to another, and the brother in Afghanistan is shot down, and presumed dead. This leads to the other brother pretty much taking over his role in the family, and trying to be a father to the kids and such. But when brother turns out to be alive, and having done some rather nasty things to get through it, all hells sorta slowly breaks loose. Anyway, excellent acting, and at last a danish movie that isnt that same shit or some stupid unfunny comedy. If you're danish, be sure to check it out.
Brødre | 4.5 georfs out of 5 georfs

Constantine
Didnt expect much from this, and I wouldnt have seen it if I had been told it was pretty good, but it did come out somewhat above expectations.
Its about an exorcist, Constantine, (K. Reeves) who has been to hell and come back, and as a result
his path to heaven is now blocked. He tries to gain some credit by keeping the evils below at bay. When the twin sister of a cop commits suicide and she tries to investigate what really happend, Constantine gets involved and slowly unveils a big thing going down, with the forces of hell and heaven taking part.
This isnt a masterpiece, and not something will make much of an impact on you, but it is a pretty okay movie (which probably offends alot of comic book fans for not being accurate, as usual). Anyway its way better than what the trailer entended, and its pretty good if you're in the mood for some hell'ish bing bong :)

June 26th, 2005 - YOSH!
Its been a really good weekend, Ive been playing alot of BF2, Conker: Live and Reloaded and God of War. Dont feel like I havent spend too little or long time on any of them, its the first time Ive been able to give 3 games the same kind of attention at once, good stuff.
Anyway, while taking a little pause from the gaming I decided to follow the footsteps of Michael Heilemann (one of my colleagues at IO), who has recently done a picture portraying the 25 most influcencial games. So I made one myself. Keep in mind that these might not be the best games (although most of these are classics anyway), but more importantly they are games that has made me think differently about games. One thing I kept thinking over was adding Doom, but Doom didnt really change my mind regarding first person shooters to be honest. Wolfenstein 3D was the one that made me fall in love with the gerne, and although Doom probably is a better game, it hasnt influenced my look at games as much as Wolfenstein did. Anyway I think you get it by now ;)
Also I encourage you to make one yourself, its good fun and you really think back on memories of these games, and will probably end up playing them again.
Anyway, here it is (click it for a slightly higher resolution picture)

June 18th, 2005 - Jiggy Jig!
Ah yes, 5 days until Battlefield 2 is released here. Will be sweet, and my summer vacation is coming up pretty soon as well. Good times.
Also, I got my Psychonauts posters and my Star Wars posters :D!~purr
Anyway, Ive seen and done alot of stuff lately, so I'll pretty quick and straight to the point :)
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butchers Bay
This is probably the first game Ive played thats more or less based on a movie that doesnt suck. The game is about Riddick (Vin Diesel, soon to be Hitman apparently :G) who has to escape a high level prison, and its a prelude to the movies. Where as the movies werent very good the game goes through extremely well. Its got a couple of pretty cool gameplay features, like the stealth and action work very well together. Its not that long, but its good as long as it lasts, and both graphics and audio is top notch, so its certainly recommendable for anybody looking for another shooter/semi-stealthish game.

Sin City
I had extremely high expectations for this movie, and to be honest then I was a bit let down by it. But do keep in mind that I had been expecting something more.......Tarantino'ish perhaps, instead of the more chronological way that it proceeds in for the most part. But this is after all a Robert Rodriguez movie so that was probably silly of me to get my hopes up.
But this movie is mainly about its style, and it looks fucking amazing. The visual style is reason enough to watch it, and given that the story is quite cool and keeps you entertained throughout the movie, should make this something that anybody can like. Oh and keep in mind that its is kinda violent at times ;)
Sin City | 4 georfs out of 5 georfs
Napoleon Dynamite
Finally saw this movie after having heard stupid quotes and stuff from it on the internets. I dont really know if you should characterize it as a comedy, because its more about how extremely dull everything is (a sort of humour I tend to enjoy alot). Anyway, it works very well in some parts of the movie, but as a whole then its just too damn boring, and the 1 hour and 30 minutes playing time does seem kinda streeched at points. So if you're not really in the mood for a blown out comedy, and just want something to watch then this will do :)

Battlefield 2 demo!!!
You still here?!?
June 6th, 2005 - Crickleplaff!
As you may have noticed I have ended my worshipping of the HD Era :O~
Anyway, biggest news is that a Battlefield 2 demo is supposed to come out on Friday! Very VERY cool stuff. Battlefield 2 is scheduled for release around June 23, which is pretty soon as well.
Now its been a while since I saw Episode 3, and I do believe I can share some thoughts on it.
Star Wars Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith
*Spoiler Alert by the way :)*
And so it is finally closed. Unless George Lucas desides to make a movie based on the time gaps between some of the movies then there wont be any more Star Wars movies. And keeping that in mind then it does ultimately help this one in my opinion. Episode 3 is far from perfect, but its also alot better than Episodes 1 and 2.
I'll mainly focus on the problems I had with Episode 3, because most other parts of it I really liked.
The main problem I had with Episode 3 was the fact that the reason for Anakin to turn to the dark side was quite weak, and felt very rushed. The entire thing with the dreams and having to save Padme felt far from believable, and that would've been fine if it wasnt for the fact that it was some of the reason that we waited for this movie with so much anticipation. Maybe its also the fact that there is no chemistry between Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen, but the point remains that it did feel like a bit too simple and in the end kinda cheap (also, Matrix Reloaded anyone?).
Even though it didnt really bother me much after having seen the movie, then it does make the transformation to Darth Vader less cool than it could've been.
Also, "ULTIMATIVE POWEEEEEER" and "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO", should've been dropped. Seriously.
But in the end that Episode 3 is a really cool movie. Its extremely entertaining and fun to watch from start to end. Thats one thing that really sets this movie appart from the previous two. Its paced alot faster, and it skips the tidbits that more or less ruined Phantom Menace. Also the special effects are quite fucking badass, and unlike with the first two they actually impress this time around. Also there some really kickass action in here ;)
Also worth noting is that the soundtrack by JonnyW is quite outstanding. Really liked this one. Dont know if it beats the Duel of the Fates theme from Episode 1, but its good ;)
So yeah, Episode 3 is good stuff. I could write alot more stuff about it, but it wont change my opinion. I feel that its a brilliant finish, that although not perfect, is better than what anybody could've hoped.
Star Wars Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith | 4 georfs out of 5 georfs

May 28th, 2005 - Gangsta Vadah!
So we went and saw Star Wars Episode 3 yesterday (which has without a doubt the worst danish translation title in human history by the way). Its the first digital projection Ive seen, and it looked so amazingly crisp, especially also because its such a good looking movie.
Anyway, I REALLY liked it, but Im gonna give it some time before I write anything about it. Much too often you're carried away by these kinda movies because of a slight shock effect. But it was good, especially the visual side (which actually disappointed me in Episode 1 and 2) was really awesome. Some of the design choices were still kinda off, but in general it had a feel of getting closer to Episode 4. I wont go into details, but I think the ending was pretty much perfect, you truely did feel that there was a transition of time. It did have some crummy acting, and some of the scenes were kinda stupid, but it was pretty minimal for most of the time. Oh and R2D2 is a fucking pimp! And the soundtrack by JohnnyW was fucking amazing, some of his best work in recent years.
:D
But as I said then I'll just give it some time, maybe watch it again, and come back to it ;)
It feels good to have some closure on this.
May 23rd, 2005 - 10-4
And so another E3 is over. To be honest then I have been a tad unimpressed with the stuff shown. But keep in mind that my expectations were absurdly high. Anyway, guys from my team have come back home with a shitload of movies and pics of boothbabes and Battlefield 2! Very pwn! One thing that I find pretty strange is that none of the big gaming sites have any new Battlefield 2 media from E3. I find that VERY strange especially since they had a booth open for anybody to play at. Hmmm.
Other stuff, going to see Episode 3 on Friday (thats Star Wars you muppet!). Looking quite forward to it, since my expectations have had a tad increase over the last couple of days since lots of people say that its the best movie in the Star Wars saga since Empire. But still, should keep in mind that I will most likely be diasppointed.
Also, the new design for mazy.net is coming along pretty good, Im still not totally set on how I want it, but it is looking quite good.
Oh and then Ive dug up Rome: Total War again and given that a go. Really good game, awesome feel to it.
May 18th, 2005 - Oh Yeah!
As you can see I have embraced the HD Era!
So yeah, E3 2005, cool stuff so far. Most note worthy is Killzone 2 and Motor Storm for the PS3. If they just end up looking a tad like that then Im really impressed, but yeah, looks fucking amazing. Also be sure to check out the trailer for MGS4, even though its MGS3 graphics then its quite funny. Also this is probably gonna be one of the best looking games to date when it comes out, Kojima-san and his guys know how to make gorgeous games.
And then theres the Nintendo Revolution. Their unveiling of it did perhaps seem like a tad weak move. It didnt seem like they were fully prepared for it, and that the other companys sorta forced them to show it. Anyway, I cant really say that I love the design, but as they mentioned it isnt done yet. However, backwards compatibility to all Nintendo consoles since the NES? YOSH! I love it, especially since I never really lived the Nintendo part of consoles that much. Me and my bro were always betting on Sega, but Ive always been interested in Nintendos machines, and always wanted their machines. So its cool that you can get that experience now, although it probably feels slightly different ;)
Also Nintendo kept quiet about their controller, but said it would be very unique, so they still got perhaps the most interesting part of the Revolution left.
May 14th, 2005 - Is this the revolution?
A movie claiming to be some leaked E3 movie from the next gen Nintendo console has found its way onto the net. Its most likely a fake, but it is a very well done and thought out fake. But in case that Im wrong, then it could perhaps be somewhat possible. It would certainly be a revolution in gaming if real.
May 14th, 2005 - Lets all embrace the HD Era!
The folks at Joystiq.com made these bingo cards based on the MTV feature on the Xbox 360. So stupid these words they use. Oh yeah, Xbox 360, they actually went with that name. Yack!
That MTV thing. In case you were wondering, its possible the most braindead, tasteless and horrible thing shown on TV in a long time. Well, I dont watch TV, and actually I downloaded it..........but, it was terrible. Apart from not having any useful information at all, and only showing a few very ugly clips from what could easily be current gen games, then the entire show functioned as a teaser (and a bad one mind you), that had a band play half the show, some moronic people visit Rare and some modders mod an Xbox1 in a despicable fashion.
Rest assured, you dont want to watch this, skip it and wait for E3. Before this show I was sure I was gonna get a 360, but now some doubt actually has snuck in. Well, it doesnt really influence me, but that show was damn pointless.
But yeah, some of the stuff released so far does look nice, next week is gonna be very interesting indeed.
Other stuff, check this out. Thrik from Razputin.net linked me to these G4 movies with Tim Schafer and the last chunchy days of Psychonauts. Its the 7 movies called Icons. Its one hour long but certainly worth it if you're a fan of Tim.
Also, out of boredom I decided to check out Speed again (the movie, not the drug). Its one of those movies that I used to think was really cool back when I was younger (and back when I had less brain activity), but obviously now its VERY stupid. However, its stupid with explosions, which is less stupid. Uhmmm, yeah.
Oh and by the way, be sure to check out that new Counter-Strike Source update. It includes a new map and a remake of de_inferno. The unthinkable has happend, a narby map that actually looks good. I know, it does seem very unlikely, but they have changed bits of the layout. Anyway, probably the best looking CS:S map now.
May 11th, 2005 - Stuff Inbound!
Been watching most of the Star Wars movies, trying to prepare myself properly for Episode 3. Whatever you think of the new movies then you have got to be excited about this very last movie, at least to put some closure on things.
Anyway, having seen Episode 1 again the other day, it became apparent that after a long break I can somewhat tolerate most of Episode 1. I can in fact deal with Jar Jar Binks, especially since he isnt such a vital part of the movie as I remember. The character is stupid and the voice is horrible, but its not really him that ruins the movie (in my opinion). Anakin (played by the horrible child actor Jake Lloyd) on the other hand does ruin this movie.
The story is shallow, and its visual presentation is a joke (LETS MAKE EVERYTHING NEW AND SHINEY!) and there is a huge leap in quality between this and the original trilogy. However these things I can live with, but Jake Lloyd does directly ruin this movie with bad acting. There is a general misconception of hating this movie without reason, without even giving it another fresh chance. I have given it another chance leading up to the last episode, and The Phantom Menace does have its qualities. For example the fight with Qui-Gon and Obi-wan duelling Darth Maul is probably the best fight scene in any Star Wars movie to date. And although that part of the movie has that horrible scene where Anakin accidentially destroys the droid unit control on the space station, thus saving the day, then the Darth Maul fight still overweights it. Anyway, I guess my point is that you should try and let these movies have another chance. The Phantom Menace isnt a very well done piece of cinema, and it is the worst Star Wars movie, no doubt, but it does have its moments, and Ive certainly had a habbit of only looking at the bad things.
So yeah, lots of Star Wars going on for me at the moment, just finished watching Attack of the Clones, so Im all pepped up for Episode 3 which I got tickets for on May 27th. Its a while after the premiere date, but I rate having good tickets higher than watching it on the premiere date. I can wait as long as I get to see it ;)
Oh yeah, E3 is upon us. Next week the biggest thing in gaming is on and this year looks like it will be the biggest show ever (like every year, heh). With both Microsoft and Sony pimping their consoles, then this E3 should have next gen written all over it. Sadly I wont be going, but some of the other graphics folks from my team will. I envy them quite alot, but I dont even know if Im ready for E3 yet. I think I would possibly explode of excitement at this point. I need to be introduced to a less intense E3 ;)
May 11th, 2005 - DANCE MOTHAFUCKA DANCE!

May 8th, 2005 - Roomie!
Check this out, Peter Molyneux's GDC presentation. Theres stuff on his thoughts on the next generation of gaming, shows off The Movies, Black and White 2, and a pretty interesting project called The Room.

Feeling alot better, went to work Friday too, anyway, stuff!
Jade Empire
So yeah, Ive looked forward to this one for quite a while. Since (as everybody knows) Bioware simply cant make bad games (except Neverwinter Nights...EEI!). Anyway, Im a pretty big fan of almost all of their games, ever since the first Baldurs Gate. Therefore it goes without saying that I had pretty high expectations for this game, and for the most part it lived up to them.
Jade Empire is set in ancient asia, the ancient kind where fantasy monsters walk the earth. In this world you start as the student of a martial arts school, which is soon attacked by an unknown force. This is just the start, but the story is long and pretty complicated, but its also one of Jade Empires biggests strengths. And although you go quite long through the game without any plot twists then there are alot later on. People who played the original Knights of the Old Republic know what I mean when I say that Bioware is one of the only developers that can actually pull off plot twists without the player even being remotely aware of it, at least it worked that way on me :)
Anyway, the story and the universe are probably the best things to mention about Jade Empire. The universe is really deep, and it is pretty apparent that there was used a great amount of time on shaping it this way. However if you rush through the game you will most likely miss alot of what truely makes it feel like a real place. And while Im on the subject of rushing then this is a rather long game of todays standards. It took me roughly 30 hours to get through it, and although I explored almost every quest I could find then you could probably squeeze out 10 extra hours if you really wanted to complete everything. Its funny because it feels like a really long game today, but back in the day with Baldurs Gate, which perhaps took me around 100 hours to complete, if not more, you didnt even think it was that long. Oh well, better stop whining about the sad turn the industry has taken ;). Also, as with other Bioware games you always have the option to either answer aggressively or kindly, and all your actions (like in KOTOR), eventually impacts how your characters alignment will be towards good or evil.
There is however one part of the game that works rather poorly. The Combat. Let me just say it as it is. The combat in this game is a joke, they could've taken it out entirely, and just have you beat each foe by default with no fight, because theres simply no challenge in it. Even on the hardest difficulty the combat is what you'd expect from a regular game on very easy. It really is too bad, because it is obvious that Bioware has wanted to try and make it more action packed, and more appealing to regular players by making it more of a button smashing thing, instead of point and click attacking like it has been in pretty much all other Bioware games. It just doesnt work, its way too easy, and although it does get a tad harder around the end, then it is still very easy. That said, the combat does look cool, so at least theres something to look at.
Although I love Bioware then their visuals has never been the main selling point. Their games look good, but never great. Jade Empire falls into this catagory for the most part. There are areas that truely look awesome, but for the most part the graphics has a rather bland look to it. Some of the lighting is really boring and alot of the textures are plain ugly. However its still the best looking Bioware game to date.
The audio side is, as usual with Bioware products, very solid. A pretty good soundtrack as well as some good voice acting.
So this might not be quite as good as I had hoped for, but it was worth it. The story and universe is interesting enough to keep you playing, and I still regard the original Knights of the Old Republic as Bioware's finest game, then this one still comes very close. Just dont get this one if you're expecting some awesome combat.

May 5th, 2005 - Psyched!
Im feeling a bit better now, my throat doesnt feel like somebody is sticking knives into it and I can almost breathe through my nose. Still feeling a bit woozy though. Anyway, Ive played stuff!
Psychonauts
I havent really been following the development of this game very much, Ive heard about it here and there, but it was after trying the demo I truely got hooked. Although a platformer at heart, Psychonauts is alot more than that.
Let me just get out, I fucking love this game. This is without a doubt the most original, hiliarious and absorbing game Ive tried in.......well, I cant even begin to think of anything to compare it with.
The game is about the boy Razputin, who runs away from home and sneaks into Whispering Rocks Psychic Summer camp, a place where youngsters are trained in using their psychic abilities. Here Razputin gets the grips with the basics, and soon gains the ability to travel into peoples minds, and its here that the real coolness begins. When you think about it then its almost amazing that noone has done anything like this before, because its so brilliant, especially with the more crazy people you encounter later on in the game. But anyway, inside the minds of people you have some objectives you have to complete, but you also find stuff like
figments of their imagination,
emotional bagage, vaults (where their secrets and shame is hidden away) and that kinda stuff, gathering this will also expand your psychic powers and make them more powerful.
But yeah, the probably most important thing to mention about Psychonauts is that it has a shitload of variation. The different minds you explore are all totally different. From a boring Psychonaut who has his mind totally organized, to another Psychonaut who has a constant party going on, to a crazy guard who has a huge conspiracy theory going on in his mind. Theres even a mind that goes on in the grand son of napoleon that changes the game to a simple strategy game.
Theres just so much depth and amazing things about Psychonauts world. All the characters are kickass and the story does a great job at twisting the plot.
The visual side of Psychonauts is pretty damn amazing. The entire game has an awesome cartoony look, that works really well. Especially considering the totally brilliant difference in style in some of the minds. It must have been a hell of a job making all of this, but it certainly paid off.
The audio side of Psychonauts is breathtaking as well. Its got an amazing score, done by Peter McConnel (who did the music for alot of LucasArts games). Personally I think this is one of the best game soundtracks in recent history, but thats just because I love wacky music ;D. Also all the voice acting is perfect.
Anyway, with recent games like Resident Evil 4 making my "One of the best games ever" list, then I dont know if I should be saying it, but this is probably one of the finest games made in the past couple of years, and if you even have the slightest sense of humor, and like platformers then you simply have to try this one.
Oh and Tim Schafer = God

May 3rd, 2005 - Guh
Was rather strange actually.
Saturday, after having updated the site actually, I suddenly started having an itchy throat. Within 1 hour it developed from nothing to hell, seriously messing me up, and by noon I felt like hell. To make all this even better, there was going on alot of pretty important stuff on Monday at work, stuff that I thankfully had finished on Friday after staying in late, but still could've used some tweaking. Anyway, nothing to do about that, just so annoying to get sick at a time like this, also because its slowly starting to get pretty hot with the weather here.
Anyway I checked out Mulholland Drive the other day, which I really liked, but Ill get back to that some other time. Also I got my hands on Psychonauts the other day, although I havent had the energy to play it that much, I'll be sure to get back to that too, since Ive been looking really forward to this one.
So, I'll probably be up and running tomorrow again, but at the moment then Im still kinda knocked out, so Im thinking about putting my 2001 DVD on and checking it out again.
April 30th, 2005 - Oink!
Decided to give Ong Bak a check since Ive heard so much good about it~
Ong Bak
As with most (or rather all?) martial arts movies Ong Bak is very thin when it comes to actual story content, it does however have some awesome fight and chase scenes that does makes up for the story.
Its about Ting, a young martial arts guy from a village in Thailand. After some evil people steal the head from their village statue Ting is sent to the city to get it back. This then leads to alot of fighting and chasing, which rocks.
Everybody says that Tony Jaa (Ting) is the next big martial arts actor, and after having seen this then I dont doubt it, some of the stuff he does is simply amazing.
So if you're in the mood for some cool fighting and dont mind listening to the Thai language then be sure to check this one out :)

April 29th, 2005 - And here we are...
Its been a rather rough week, lots of stuff going on at work, lots of late nights working hard, not much sleep to be honest.
So, lots of thinking about the new design and concept of mazy.net has been going on, and though no conclusion has been made, then Im trying to make it as original as I can, though still trying to keep to this current design, with some small additions obviously.
Apart from working then I have played a bit of Jade Empire here and there, and it is quite cool indeed. Although I am a tad disappointed in the difficulty of the fighting, then the story and core RPG and Adventure elements are totally on par with what was found in Knights of the Old Republic.
Im also trying to find some more original twists for my HL2DM map, which is progressing quite nicely again, although no way near complete. I still have my doubts that it will run very well with more players, since working with these large open areas in Half-Life is rather new to me, but it is more an experiment at this point so I wont be totally heartbroken if it doesnt turn out quite like I wanted it.
April 23rd, 2005 - Wringlecack
Been playing some Jade Empire, good stuff. Ive also been working on my HL2 stuff a bit, going on pretty good, and Ive also been doing some drafts for a new mazy.net design. Its quite fun to try and twist this current layout into something really different. Because the thing is that I dont really have anything against this design, I just wanna mess a bit with it :)
Oh yeah I also saw the new episode of Family Guy, really awesome that its back. The best thing on TV (well isnt being shown here, but over there!). Really fun stuff, be sure to check it out if you can :)~
Anyway, I checked out that new Blade movie...
Blade: Trinity
As far as I can remember then the original Blade movie was okay. Nothing that special, but a good action movie. Havent bothered with Blade 2 (which is supposed to be really horrible), but Blade: Trinity was actually pretty good fun. Keep in mind that you have to totally turn off your brain when you watch it because you're probably gonna have lost half your braincells by the time the main titles goes on.
This movie doesnt really have a story. Its basically about Blade and some guys who has to go after Dracula, the original Vampire, and mix his blood with some chemicals in order to kill all other vampires around him. So yeah, kill kill kill. However where I would usually get tired of this kind of movie pretty fast, then Blade: Trinity was actually pretty good. The action is pretty damn awesome, and since this movie is basically one huge action sequence then that makes it pretty good. Also where as the first Blade movie took itself very seriously this one doesnt, which is good (because man, when Blade is serious he really sucks, which in other words means all the time). Anyway, they've added a chick (Jessica Biel, prrrrrr) to sexify it, and a wise cracking kinda clown'ish character (Ryan Reynolds) to make it less stiff and to make fun of Blade.
Apart from the worst product placement in movie history in a scene with some Apple products, then Blade: Trinity was quite good. If you're in the mood for some stupid fun and you like to hate seeing Wesley Snipes trying to be cool then this is for you.
Blade: Trinity | 3 georfs out of 5 georfs
April 17th, 2005 - Them Evil Doers
Just finished the Doom 3 expansion pack~~
Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil
Well theres not really much to say, if you liked what was going on with Doom 3 then you're gonna like this. And the other way around if you dont like it......or something. Im confused.
Anyway, you're once again up against the hordes of hell as another mute nameless marine . The gameplay is pretty much the same as in the original Doom 3, although there has been added some rather nice things to the perhaps rather standard gameplay of the original game. You now have a special artifact that gives you the ability to slow down time, go berserk and become invincible. However it requires the souls of dead humans to be powered up. Its a nice feature that does make this a more variated and in the end more enjoyable experience than the original. Also the leveldesign has become alot more focused on action instead of trying to scare you. You now have to fight alot more guys, but with the addition of the artifact then it becomes pretty balanced anyway. Theres also a gravity gun, and although not as cool as the one found in Half-Life 2, then it does have a nice blur effect when it grabs things, which makes it quite win :)
Visually RoE looks awesome, better than Doom 3 in many cases, but pretty much the same allround. If you're expecting some new enviroments you're gonna be disappointed though, because they're the same as the stuff in the original. However, you do start at the ruins this time around, which does make it a bit easier to get into in my opinion.
Sound wise its good too, pretty much same stuff as the original.
So all round a quite nice expansion pack. It didnt last longer than around 5 hours for me, but I did kinda rush it at times. I dont know about the multiplayer, but its supposed to be pretty much the same as Doom 3s, except its got Capture The Flag this time around, so I doubt thats gonna be much reason to buy it. It was rather pricey for an expansion pack, and considering that there wasnt that much playtime in it then it might not be the best value for your money, but it is good fun if you're in the mood for some more Doom 3 action.
Oh and Posteh worked on this game so you have to buy anyway plzkthx D:

April 16th, 2005 - Its mapping maaaaan, or something D:
Yeah after talking about the HL2 contest winners at work I got really inspired to get back on with my HL2 map, so I got some good work done yesterday and today. Feels quite good. Especially since Im not really doing any leveldesigning at work right now, so its cool to get all my ideas flowing out in this stuff, and theres enough of it, since I havent really finished off any maps in over the last 16 months or so. Obviously work makes it hard, but still, I want to do some stuff in my spare time. Theres just so long between wanting and having time to do it.
Anyway, me and Iceduck were talking about movies or something and we talked about Mulholland Drive and how neither of us had seen it, so I decided to order the DVD. Anyway, one thing lead to another and I ended up ordering 2 disc special edition boxsets of Pulp Ficition, Seven, The Usual Suspects, Die Hard, Dr. Strangelove and 2001: A Space Odessey Limited Collectors Edition. And thats after having ordered a bunch of other DVDs, where I still havent gotten my Fight Club DVD :).
But I should have enough movies to keep me occupied for a while then :)
April 12th, 2005 - Psychadelic!
The demo of Psychonauts has been released! Actually I havent really been following this game much, but after playing the demo then I just want more. I love its wacky style and feel. Will be out on friday or something, so thats good :D

April 9th, 2005 - 10 Dolla?
So apart from playing a little bit of Tekken 5 then I checked out Million Dollar Baby
Million Dollar Baby
Is it just me or is Clint Eastwood really old? I mean damn, he almost looks like a skeleton at this point D:
Anyway that surely doesnt stop him from doing good movies and acting in them. So, his latest Oscar winner is about him, playing an old nearly worn out boxing trainer who takes on training a woman after his last boxer went on to great fame. It goes through how Maggie (Hilary Swank) trains and fights on to big fights, but also how they both have some gaping holes of lost family. Frankie (The Clint) of his lost contact with his daugther, which he constantly sends letters to, and Maggie of her father. And how having some support can sometimes make or break the dream.
Anyway, the story of the build up of a boxer from the bottom to the top is neat and works really well, and all the actors give up some really good performances which certainly makes this movie worth watching.

April 6th, 2005 - Ack
Havent been playing lots of World of Warcraft lately actually. Ive just been too damned tired to sit up and play stuff, so instead Ive seen pretty much all of the Band of Brothers episodes again. Good stuff, cant wait for that "sequel" set in the Pacific. Hope they can pull off doing another awesome series.
Anyway, yap yap!
World of Warcraft
Let me just get this out of the way. Ive been playing it almost non-stop for 2 months, so it shouldnt be a surprise that I love this game.
There is so much cool stuff in WoW that I dont even know where to start with, so instead Im just gonna point of the things thats kept me hooked up until now.
First off its probably the first game Ive played where teamwork has been such an integral part of the gameplay. It just seems so natural for the most part, and you almost never experience this in another games, except when you play with your friends. Theres nothing quite like joining forces with some complete strangers, and discovering that it really does pay off to play as a team.
Also the world in which you're playing is quite amazing. There is so much variation, from forests to deserts to swamps to icey landscapes. Theres so many different locations, and everything looks stunning. Perhaps not from a technical standpoint, but in terms of style then Blizzard really shows that they know what they're doing.
Although the gameplay might be a tad limited for some since the combat is a manner of point and click, then its still full of depth, and the constant motivation for leveling your character up and getting some better spells and equipment make this game last long, especially until you get your horsie :)
Anyway theres so much to say, and Im probably not gonna justice to it by trying to mention all the cool things, so I wont, but this really is an amazing game. There is obviously a point where you might lose interest in it, of course it will come, but considering how many hours of playing you can put into this before you get tired then this might very well be the best investment you can make :)
Ive never played an MMORPG before this one, but WoW has actually made me think about trying some in the future, so even if you dont think you like these kinds of games, then you should reconsider and try this one out :)

Oceans Twelve
When I saw Oceans Eleven the first time I thought it was a pretty good movie, but after having seen it some time recently then I gotta admit that its actually a very boring movie, and if it is indeed supposed to be a comedy, then it fails miserably in my opinion. Still, it was some what entertaining the first time around, the sequel isnt.
They desperately try to make it have this smart feel to it but it gets boring and old after a few minutes, and apart from that then the actual story is extremely thin. The guys from the first movie has to pay back the fella the stole their money from, and they have to do this by doing another coup, which ends up in being a contest between them and some masterthief guy. Also the climax where everything is supposed to make people go "OOOW" falls really flat here, where as the first movie did an okay job at this. Anyway -skip to the end- This movie is waste of time.
Ocean's Twelve | 1 georfs out of 5 georfs

The Italian Job
Yeah another coup movie, however this one was alot better than Ocean's Twelve. I never saw the original The Italian Job, so I cant really compare anything, but it was pretty good. Its about a gang who rob some stuff in Venice, but is shortly after betrayed by one of the group, and he tries to kill them and steals the loot. These guys survive and now plan a counter-coup to get their money back. Its a fairly easy movie to understand, and its not some masterpiece, but I found myself entertainted throughout the entire movie, so its certainly worth a watch if you're in the mood for this kind of stuff. Also Charlize Theron is fckn hot in it, so thats another reason to check it ;)

Its review time! BIA AND RE4!
Brothers In Arms
Seriously, World War 2 shooters has got to be one of the most overdone genre in the last couple of years. However its not really because theres been alot of bad games, the quality of them has usually been quite high. In this case Im thinking about MOH:AA and Call of Duty. Although good games, they took a rather absurd angle at World War 2 as you took on the entire german army on your own. It got old very fast. It seems that Gearbox Software was tired of the sad turn WW2 Shooters took (much like myself), and therefore took on the job of making a realistic WW2 shooter based around the airbourne landings at Normandy, incorporating tactics as an essential gameplay element and making what ended up looking much like Band of Brothers the game, which is a good thing ;)
First off, this is without a doubt the best WW2 shooter Ive tried to date, and Im not just saying that because I know a bunch of guys that work at Gearbox. This is a really good game that takes chances and works out extremely well for the most part. The thing that probably sets BIA most apart from the other WW2 games is the squad tactics. Using a system very much similar with the one found in Freedom Fighters. There are however some differences, since you need to provide supressing fire and have each of your squads cover each other. So in general the gameplay is set up around you placing your soldiers and then having some flanking the enemy while they're being supressed. It might take a few tries before you get used to it, but when you do you can preform some fast and pretty awesome attacks on the enemy positions. And it does get quite tense sometimes when you got bullets flying all over the place, and you just know you gotta do something if you want to get through it. Also the maps are open enough for experimenting with different types of assaults, which should provide some good replay value. Gameplay wise Brothers In Arms does have some few problems, but these are mainly AI related. Perhaps the most annoying is when you command a squad to move to a cover, and they place themselves on the wrong side of the cover, and therefore getting themselves killed. I had a few times throughout the game where I had to replay areas more times because they did this. It is however a matter of pointing very precisely, even though this can fail as well.
On the visual side then BIA is totally kickass. Normandy never looked this good in a game. All the vegetation has a really wild look to it, and with everything swaying in the wind it just looks amazing. Also the villages you come across all look quite realistc, although some of the textures does have a tendency to have a mudded out look to them, but the look of the game is consistant so I guess I shouldnt whine about it :). Also a neat feature that adds to the sorta documentary'ish look of the game is when a grenade of mortar explodes infront of you, dirt flies up on the screen. This also goes for blood when you're shot.
The audio is good too. The music is very Saving Private Ryan/Band of Brothers inspired, with some good orchestral music. The voice acting is well done as well, although the stuff that Matt Baker (The guy you're playing) says in the start of each mission tends to get pretty corny.
So all in all an awesome game. If you're tired shitless of WW2 shooters and dont wanna play one again, then give this a try. It comes at a soft spot where you see a generic action shooter WW2 pop out every week. It isnt perfect, and although the singleplayer part might be a tad short, then its still the best WW2 Shooter Ive tried yet. Now I just hope Gearbox can keep this up and gimme some more :)~
Brothers In Arms: Road To Hill 30 | 4.5 georfs out of 5 georfs

Resident Evil 4
Lets try and keep this short. This is the best game Ive tried since Half-Life 2. And actually Im even gonna go as far as to say that this might very well be better than HL2. Anyway, enough comparing. If you (like me) think the Resident Evil series is a load of shit, then this game will totally stun you for life. RE4 takes the old boring fixed point perspective and pops it into full 3D on the Gamecube. And its sweet!
The story is rather fucked up to be honest. You (a US Goverment Agent, called Leon) is sent to a European (Spanish) village to look for clues of the US Presidents missing daugther. However there you find a shitload of villagers thats become zombies! And obviously the american army isnt sent in since you have a radio connection and nothing is in the way for it........eh, well, never mind about that, because the gameplay is so awesome that it doesnt need a good story to rock. In general there is alot of strange things about RE4, like a guy you can buy new weapons and upgrades from that just appears the most strange places, but it doesnt really matter anyway. There are very few games where I could live with this, and RE4 is one of them. What makes the gameplay so good? It just feels so well balanced and so full of variation as you try to gun down them zombies! The way you view the game, from over the shoulder works so amazingly well to give you paranoia of people standing behind you. The fact that you cant strafe also makes it even more hectic as you're being swarmed by zombies, and although it might sound annoying then you get used to it, and it does make you more aware of your placement when you engage enemies and works well to establish a tense feel. And since this is a horror game as well, then you can expect some places where you're gonna get spooked ;) Also worth noting is that its around 20 hours long, but it just keeps you thrilled and wanting more.
Visually this is probably one of the best looking games out now. It seriously looks fucking amazing! Especially the cinematic (which are all ingame by the way) are totally breathtaking. There are some few places where the game looks less good, but almost everything
is bound to impress you.
The audio is good too, some excellent voice acting and music further enhances the movie like feel. Also all the zombie moans are spot on!
So yeah, if you have a Gamecube then you simply need to get this game. Theres no excuse. Its without a doubt the best Gamecube game Ive played to date.

March 19th, 2005 - Pokie Pokie Eh?
Hey, over here! Yes, update time D:
Okay I'll stop teasing those that visit the site ;)
First off, got Brothers In Arms (PC version, not that horrible PS2 port I was playing at first). Its good stuff. I was a tad sceptical at first, but giving the gameplay some time has made the experience much better, and I can honestly say that this is the best WW2 action game yet. Even though it isnt perhaps as action based as some would've liked, then its blend of tactics and action is just right, and it works well, and it IS Band of Brothers the game. Anyway, Mazzle review later.
So, apart from that and playing an unhealthy dose of WOW then Ive been watching movies. Just finished watching Schindlers List again. Its the first time Ive seen it in quite a while. Obviously is hard to say that these kind of movies are good due to the circumstances they're based upon, but its a well crafted movie, and in my opinion one of Spielbergs best.
Also, I cant help but getting a little hyped up about up about Episode 3 (Star Wars). Especially after I started listening to these Audio Drama things, based on Episode 4. Its basically the entire movie played out, but theres like a shitload of extra details, which is good stuff to listen to while you're working ;D
Also, checked out The Machinist the other day
The Machinist
So yeah, another movie about a weirdo where everything is rather fucked up, and where you dont know whats real and whats made up in his mind. It is perhaps getting a tad old, but it works quite well in The Machinist.
Its about a machine worker who has a terrible case of insomnia, and after he accidentially gets another worker "hurt", he starts getting some strange messages and stuff.
Its a fairly entertaining movie, but perhaps not as special as I had hoped, but certainly worth the time if you're in the mood for this kind of movie.

Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith trailer
Oh yeah, I went on a little shopping spree today and bought Gran Turismo 4, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Mercenaries
March 9th, 2005 - Ooooooo!
Consider yourself pwnd!
March 6th, 2005 - iRox!
So, after waiting a very long while I finally got myself an iPod. Been waiting a good long time to get one, so after the pricecut I bought one :))
So yeah, 60gb iPod photo, very pwn. Got myself a dock and remote for it as well, so it actually ended up costing almost as much as it did before the pricecut :o
Anyway, cool stuff, I hope I get tired of World of Warcraft soon so I can update the site more often ;D
Oh and Im planning on trying and doing some new design for the site myself as well, wanna see I can actually do it :)
Oh and I just archived the last couple of months~
March 1st, 2005 - YIKES!
Waaaaay too much World of Warcraft, I know ;)
Anyway, today is a very special day. Exactly one year ago I began my journey into the gaming industry and started at my job in IO. I gotta admit that its gone extremely fast, and I still have a hard time believing that there has indeed gone one year :)
But yeah, awesome stuff. Also reminds me to appreciate actually having a job I enjoy so much, and having such awesome coworkers. Good times~
And speaking of good times, World of Warcraft! What can I say, I love it! At least so far, and even though I assume that it will inevitably get boring then Im just enjoying every minute of it, Mazzle review soon! :D
See you in a week! (Just kidding! I hope D:)
February 19th, 2005 - Wow!
Well, Its safe to say that Im totally hooked on World of Warcraft. Everytime I get home from work I just rush for the computer and play it until like 01:00. I guess I might have unestimated it, but it really is quite amazing. A thing worth mentioning is that this is without a doubt the game where I have found the best team work, of any game, ever. Every person Ive teamed up with on quests is kind and always want to try out some tactics on how to get some monsters down n stuff, its really quite awesome.
Oh yah, I came across this movie while checking Shacknews. It shows a post apocalyptic game (much much like Fallout) which was in development by Troika. Sadly Troika has shut down (/me hugz Zaphod :((~), which will most likely make it more painful to watch, because it looked very promising :(~
February 13th, 2005 - Ta'fuckin'da!
Wow Im really taking some big breaks from the site at the moment, not intentionally, obviously, lots of stuff to do at the moment ;)
Okay fire off, Iceduck has started working on a new design for mazy.net, since this design is starting to get a tad old (Ive used it for like 4 years, and it still does hold up very well too). Anyway, good stuff, I just need to bugger him into doing it a bit differently perhaps :)
So, moving on. Yesterday me and some of the guys from work set up a movie night at IO, where we set up a pretty damn cool cinema with projector shizzle and nizzle. There were supposed to be some more guys, but we ended up being 4 guys which was nice and cozy. So we saw Predator, Robocop 1 and Moon 44. The last mentioned was somewhat....lacking in quality, but it was still quite fun, and obvious the other movies are cool stuff. Anyway, we plan on having another movie night so cool stuff.
As I didnt have enough uncompleted games as it is, then I bought World of Warcraft and Knights of the Old Republic 2 the other day. Havent had time to check out KOTOR2 yet, but World of Warcraft is quite cool so far, although perhaps a tad repetitve, but I hope that will change later. Its the first MMORPG Ive really played, so its quite nice, and the visuals and sound are quite awesome. In case you got it, then Im playing on "Bloodhoof" as Mazy, and Im a night elf.
Wow after saying that I feel like a total geek....heeeey wait a second...
Anyway, signing off is your main reggin here, Mazy!
February 5th, 2005 - Shabby Tale
Once again, popped on a movie...
Shark Tale
Ive always found it strange with Shark Tale. First Pixar makes A Bugs Life, then Dreamworks comes with Antz. Both movies with insects. Then Pixar comes with Monsters Inc, and Dreamworks with Shrek (I know that one isnt that close, but still works if you push it a bit ;D), and now Pixar did Finding Nemo, underwater movie with talking fish, and Dreamworks come with Shark Tale, underwater movie with talking fish.
Hmmmm...
Anyway, where as Finding Nemo had a nice story Shark Tale is carried by a very thin one. Its about Oscar, a fish whos been dreaming of a celebrity life, which he gets after an anchor hits a shark that was hunting him and he takes the credit for killing it. The story also go around Lenny, the brother of the dead shark, who has to take over his fathers mafia empire, but isnt fit for it since he lacks the aggressiveness his father desires. So the movie is pretty much about how Oscar realizes that fame isnt exactly what he wanted, and Lenny just wants his father acceptance for who he is.
Its very predictable, and I found myself just wanting the story to move one since I had already figured out what was going to happen. Its got some few okay funny moments, buts not really something that will do more than make you smile a bit.
Shark Tale does have a nice style though. The gritty underwater city is pretty original, and feels very different from the more traditional underwater enviroments found in Finding Nemo. Also most of the voice acting is well done, although it feels more like a movie driven by the big name actors that play the characters, rather than some unique and interesting characters.
So yeah, an okay movie, but you wont miss much by not seeing it :)

February 4th, 2005 - Ey Comrade
Was tired....again, so I popped on a movie...
Enemy at the Gates
So yeah war movie stuff. It takes place during World War 2 in Stalingrad, just as the German invasion is at its highest. A low ranked russian marksman proves that he has some skill with a rifle while with a political officer in the Russian army, and suddenly his example is used as a morale booster in the whacked up Russian army.
Enemy at the Gates does go around a couple of things, such as how the Russian army tried to find some succesful way of boosting the soldiers morale instead of just killing them and how their propaganda machines ran, but the main focus is the battle between the russian sniper and some hotshot german major sniper. However these duel scenes (and theres alot of them) are really boring, and since there usually no real tension going on in them then they end up being rather pointless. Also, Enemy at the Gates sometimes lack structure. It just jumps around from place to place from situations that you would otherwise think were places where the main character could easily get killed, but apparently that doesnt matter. Its not that its like this throughout the entire movie, but there were a few spots that I found kind of strange.
Anyway, it was fairly entertaining, but far from what I expected (something along the lines of Saving Private Ryan, with more focus on fluid action scenes), but its still a pretty okay movie.

FlickerFlackerFlockel! I saw Collateral you pimp!
Collateral
Its basically about a hitman, Vincent (Tom Cruise), who arrives in LA and has to go around and...do his job on some people, he then finds the cabbie Max (Jamie Foxx) to drive him around. Anyway, he figures out what Vincent is really doing, and it starts to get all intense.
Anyway, its a pretty good movie, although in the end nothing special. But it keeps you entertained while you're watching it, and what more can you ask for? :)

February 2nd, 2005 - I Saw Saw
I was so fucking tired when I came home so I just popped a movie on...
Saw
I dont really watch that many horror/thriller movies, mainly because they usually do a very poor job at keeping me interested throughout the entire movie. Anyway, Saw did an okay job at keeping me interested, at least for the first 30 minutes.
Its about two guys, a doctor and some dude, who wake up in an old industrial bathroom thing, tied to some pipes in each side of the room, with a dead guy lying between them, and with some madman watching them play his sick mindgames! Anyway, without spoiling anything then the part of the story which takes place in the bathroom is quite cool and intense, at least in the start. The movie does lose some of its momentum when it starts going into these flashbacks.
Anyway, further into the movie it does lose its intense feel, and the stuff outside the bathroom scenes often feel boring and stretched out.
But for a genre where Ive usually been really disappointed lately, then Saw did a pretty good job, even though it does go a bit sour after a while.

February 1st, 2005 - Hallehuja!
Me and Iceduck went on a little trip and checked out some Apple Cinema Displays. He's totally buying one, but Ive not yet totally decided wheter Im getting one, or rather when I should get one.
But after you've seen the 30" then you cant go back.....well, you can when you consider the fact that you need Dual DVI to use it! :)
But it is cool, really cool. They're all cool. But Im just not sure if its a good idea or time to buy one. If I get one, that will be my only monitor for now, since I have no room for my other one, and Im still not sure if its that good for the kind of games I play. But apart from that then its sweet, but I would probably have to go with the 20", since the 23" (which otherwise seems like the perfect choice for me) is supposed to be kinda buggy and lots of people are having problems with it.
Hmmm, anyway, I doubt I'll get one anytime soon, but after Iceduck gets his then I'll probably be too weak to resist.
January 30th, 2005 - Soze?
Still havent quite gotten over how good these speakers are, but its slowly winding off. Awesome stuff, especially when you play stuff like Doom 3 where the sound is pretty vital for the feel of the game.
Anyway, saw The Usual Suspects again, amazing movie, and even though I thought it wouldnt be very good the second time then it does hold up very well. Im still kinda pissed that I wasnt paying that much attention to it the first time I saw it. Maybe it was because I got into it half way through. Its too bad though, with an ending like that it deserves better. But still, havent ruined the awesomeness :)
Oh and Ive been playing alot of Counter-Strike: Source, especially on the new map, de_tides. Although I wasnt terribly excited about it at first, then Ive started to really like it. The layout provides some interesting tactics, since its mostly open, yet has alot of close quaters as well, and then it looks nice in all its cartooniness :)
