December 12th, 2005 - Promise
Mazy.net version 2, this week, very soon.

Promise.

December 11th, 2005 - Im just a messanger...
Beh, Ive been sick most of this week. Damn cold, finally starting to fade away, gave me a chance to play some 360 (And no, I was sick, its not like Im still in School ;D).

You might have noticed that lack of updates recently. Reason not being laziness, but rather that I want the new site up so I can spend the updates there :D. I really want it done, but Im stuck on having other people doing the actual work since Im a goon when it comes to html, php and all those mysterious things. Iceduck is helping, but he's having some problems getting it set up, but I am doing my best to push him into getting it done :)

Hopefully it wont be too long before you'll lay your eyes on the new design.

December 4th, 2005 - Werd
I'll be brief, since my new little baby is waiting for some more gaming. Ive been playing quite a bit the last two days. I really like the entire feel of the Xbox 360. The looks, feel, both of the hardware and menus. Also got Live now, which doesnt work quite perfect when I try to play it online. Dont know what it is, but when I create my own games in PGR3 and people join it works great, but it doesnt really like joining other servers, for the most part. But it does work, and its pretty damn awesome. Also downloaded alot of games for the Live Arcade, good stuff.

As for the games, Project Gotham Racing 3 rocks, really awesome looking game, also plays great. Perfect Dark Zero, bought it pretty much based on Gamespots review (got 9.0, best rated 360 game on their site). The actual game isnt that good though, not so far anyway. I'll still give it a chance, but it just doesnt look very good, unless you count having a shitload of fancy effects at once without any style good looking. Condemned is surprisingly cool. Really love the feel of it, looks amazing and its really scary. Supposely its going to get very repetitive in the long run, but so far I'm digging it.

Thats it for now, I'll be back in a bit.

December 1st, 2005 - Winded Up
So, tomorrow marks the beginning of the HD Era, The Digital Decade....whatever stupid description you want to put on some new hardware, fact is that the 360 is coming to Europe tomorrow.

Thing is that I didnt really expect to get excited about it, but now that its so close then I just help but be all giddy about it. I mean common, its not that often that theres a new console released. All this buzz about lack of 360 units is pretty crazy, but fortunatly I preordered mine a while ago, so Im home free, still dont understand how come demand is this high. Guess Microsoft did they job well this time.

Anyway, today I was at DAC 05, which will go on tomorrow and Saturday. Although I'm all for learning something, or getting some new ideas and impressions, then this is just plain silly for the most part. Most of these presentations are so conceptual that you'll end up really tired of it in no time. There were however a few ones of todays that were pretty good.

Last, but not at least. Mazy.net 2.0 is pretty much set up and done. However there is still a great deal of work left in doing the various sections. It requires some time to reevaluate what should be on the site and what should be left out. I'd really love to have the new site up and running for tomorrow, but it seems unlikely at this time. I promise that I'll make up for it with some really kickass stuff though, and it will be up as soon as humanly possible :) (Keep in mind that Im probably the person that wants the new design the most).

Until Im all 360'ified, adieu.

November 27th, 2005 - Science Fiction Mania
Dont know where all this comes from, but Ive just been eating up one Science Fiction series after another lately. First I checked out Firefly. A short (since they only got to make one season) but great experience. Now Ive moved onto another Sci-fi series which is still running, Battlestar Galactica.

Loosely based on the original series from the late 70s. This one has the last human survivors of a devistating war against the cyclones (human made robots that turn their back on their human masters) trying to keep themselves alive and find a new place to start civilization. Its a very serious series, but it does everything so well that it doesnt really matter. Its also pretty obvious that its got a pretty big budget for a TV series, especially when compared to something such as Firefly.

I still havent seen that many episodes, but Im already hooked, wanting some more.

Then I also completed that new Brothers in Arms game...

Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood
If you've played the first game then you exactly what this is. It feels more like an expansion pack rather than an actual game to be honest. Not that its short, and I suppose its not a bad thing that its so similar either, given that the original BiA was a pretty solid title.

That said then its still a pretty uninspired game unless you're totally into the first Brothers in Arms.

There is some difference. The levels tend to be more open and leave you with more room for improvisation, they also focus alot more on urban combat than the first one. It also looks a tad better, and the music sounds even more Saving Private Ryan'ish than the first one.

Its not really a bad game I guess, I just think I had enough after the first BiA. Plus Im dead tired of WW2 games.

November 26th, 2005 - AAAHaaa!
Saw that new Potter movie, plus games!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Its not really that I dont like the Harry Potter movies, I think they are well crafted and are quite entertaining. Its just that they tend to be way too long and stretched out. They're movies that I almost cant help but fall asleep to unless its early on the day. They arent really bad, they just seem to pack so much in them that usually does seem a tad too much. I would most likely feel different if I had actually read the books.

Anyway, this new one is no exception. It has lots of ideas and looks and sounds great, and starts off with lots of energy, but its just too damn long. I hate to be so blunt and blame the length of it, but thats just the case. You could probably pull out 30% of the scenes and still maintain the story and character building stuff and have a movie that has alot better flow I reckon.

Now I went in expecting this, and that made it alot more enjoyable for me than the previous movies were. It really is hard not to like some of the spirit of the universe, and even though its focus is a tad broad, then it still keeps that spirit.

Im just waiting to see what they're going to do with the next movies, given that the actors are starting to grow up for real now, somebody will probably have to rewrite all that stuff or something :)

The score is based on it being, after all, funny and enjoyable. Although it might be a tad long, then its still recommended to anybody with a lust for some fantasy shizzle.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire | 3.5 georfs out of 5 georfs

Civilization IV
Not much to say about this. Its Civilization, and its the best in the series.

The new additions of religion, unit stats, technology and just balancing is perfect. It looks good, though not terribly impressive, then its functional and the world view, where you actually see the entire globe from space, looks cool. It also sounds great, lots of awesome music makes it a joy to play, and it also has Sid running you through the tutorial ;D

So if you like Civ, get it!

Civilization IV | 5 georfs out of 5 georfs

The Movies
Another Molyneux original. However unlike many others this one actually delivers pretty well. Thats not to say Lionheads other games have been bad.

The premise is simple. You run a film studio, starting in the 1920s. This includes hiring actors, directors, crew, building sets and buildings for your movies, and most importantly, making the actual movies. You see, you gain the ability to craft your own scripts a little into the game. What this basically means is that you got an absoulte shitload of clips that you can put together and form a movie. This tool is extremely impressive on every level. Although not terribly effective if you want to put something meaningful together fast, then its still great fun to play with.

Visually it looks great. You can zoom down to view the smallest details. From the sets where your films are being shot to plants and shit. It also sounds great. Theres a really hilarious radio host, that also change through the years. All the music is totally awesome as well.

Its a really addictive game too, and though not as great the second time, then you'll still see those hours just fly by.

The extreme micro management that the studio running requires can get a bit too much sometimes. Having to take care of alot of actors and directors at once will get pretty frustrating, especially later in the game when you get alot more to take care of.

But yeah, its an interesting game, that certainly tries something new to offer. So if you want to lose a couple of days with some addictive gaming then give this one a try.

November 25th, 2005 - Stay Calm...
Me and Iceduck went to check out Serenity.

Serenity
If you've seen the TV series Firefly then you know what you're in for, more or less. Its alot more action packed though, and its pretty obvious that they got a bigger budget than on the TV series. I really liked it, its thrill ride from start to end, and if you like the series you're gonna love this. Only bad thing is that they probably wont resume the TV series or make another Serenity movie, since it hasnt done very well at the box office.

For those that dont know Firefly, then its about a crew of Mercenaries/Hired Arms/"Help out guys". Set 500 years in the future, after which there has been a huge war where Mal, the captain of the ship Serenity, was on the losing side. Now they try to get by as best they can, until they pick up a strange girl, River, and her doctor brother Simon, and after that it just leads to trouble.

Its probably best to see Firefly before Serenity, but it still stands on its own, even though Firefly does give you more time to get to know the characters.

Anybody that likes Sci-fi action with some humour thrown in should check this out.

November 23rd, 2005 - Oh Poochie
Just couldnt help but post this. I saw it a while ago, but it just really cracks me up. The J. Allard Transformation :)

The new site design is on its way. I cant really promise any specific time, but Iceduck is helping me getting it set up and stuff, and its my hope that it'll be up sometime next week. Really looking forward to getting it all set up, been wanting to get a redesign for ages now.

Oh I got my hands on Pursuit Force today, liking it so far.

November 19th, 2005 - PSPness
Just thought I'd do a runthrough the games I've played so far on the PSP, just if there should be anybody thats still thinking about what titles are good or not.

Wipeout Pure
Although good as a launch title, then Wipeout Pure doesnt have that much to offer in terms of longivity. It doesnt have that many levels to offer, and the harder difficulties tend to make the gameplay alot faster, which doesnt always work in favour of the levels rather narrow layouts. That said then it is good fun for the most part. It also looks great and has a pretty good soundtrack to boot. Certainly a must have for Wipeout fans, but not the best racing game for PSP now.

Wipeout Pure | 4 georfs out of 5 georfs

Lumines
Perfect launch title. Shares alot of similarities with tetris, being madly addictive, to the point where you think of possible scenarioes even while youre not playing. If you're into puzzle games then this is your game. It looks and sound good too, although it wont showcase any of the PSP's 3D graphics powers then it still showcases the PSP's awesome screen.

Lumines | 4.5 georfs out of 5 georfs

Virtua Tennis
If you ever played the Dreamcast version then you know what you're in for. Even if you're not interested in Tennis then this will still be an entertaining game. The gameplay isnt terribly deep, but its good fun for short games. Visually it looks good. The music can get pretty annoying at times though.

Virtua Tennis | 3 georfs out of 5 georfs

Metal Gear Acid
Although I would've prefered a normal MGS game then this turn based idea works relatively well, and captures the feel of battles and sneaking in a regular MGS game. It also looks and sounds good. Story is still fucked up, even more than in other MGS games :)

Im still waiting for a real MGS game for the PSP though ;)

Metal Gear Acid | 3.5 georfs out of 5 georfs

Burnout Legends
All that needs to be said is that it captures the feel of Burnout 3 perfectly. It looks great, one of the best looking PSP games out, and the soundtrack is pretty good too. Best racing game for the PSP so far.

November 17th, 2005 - Meep
My throat has been pretty messed up the last couple of days, so I've been staying home to avoid getting all snotty and stuff. Its the really awful kind where you can barely swallow without tasting a bit of blood, or something like that. Anyway its pretty much gone now, so I'll probably be back on the horse (?) and at work tomorrow.

So, with some extra time I decided to check out a bunch of stuff since I was in bed anyway.

First I checked out Groundhog Day, Bill Murray shizzle where he's an asshole weatherman that relives the same day over and over, good stuff. Then I saw the second Tomb Raider movie, absoultely horrible. Then it was time for Red Dawn, a movie that I've been wanting to see for ages, since its more or less the main inspiration for Freedom Fighters (One of my favourite games ;D!!!). Although really cheesy at times, then its got some really awesome scenes at times. Really like the setting of small towns in America being invaded by Russian paratroopers, and then having a bunch of teenagers fight them. Dont know if that balances it out, but if you can see past its cheesiness then its pretty interesting. Certainly made me think about how cool you could make a Freedom Fighters movie.

After that I decided to check out Firefly, a Sci-fi western series that was cancelled by Fox after its first season, but has then gathered quite a crowd of fans afterwards, especially with the recent release of Serenity which is pretty much a movie based on it. Anyway, its kinda annoying to see it, because some parts of Firefly are things that I walked around and thought would be really original, and cool to do, and then they come along and do it :). Anyway, its good, although Im not totally sold on some of the stuff where they're dressing up as cowboys, riding around on horses and then in spaceships later on. Its very different though, and certainly worth a watch if you're into Sci-fi and looking for a series you know wont take up too much of your time (since its cancelled :G).

Then I just saw The Interpreter. Quite a good movie, although a tad hard to follow in some places (maybe its just because I'm a bit slow right now). Also it features Jesper Christensen, also known as Nana's father, which alone is enough reason to watch it. (Thats a joke intended for Danish folks by the way :D).

Oh and then I've played games. Got The Movies last Friday, and I really like it. Madly addictive though. Also been giving Guitar Hero a tear, really awesome, too bad I dont have a guitar controller for it though.

So I've at least spend my sick time on something :). I hope to have the new site design up soon, just need to figure out the right way to do it, since I plan on having comments on the site as well. I also plan on taking the site in a slightly different direction, with more focus on game development instead of just having me blabbering about movies ;). Wont stop handing out Georfs though, never will!!!

November 6th, 2005 - Hello Cutie Pie
The redesign of mazy.net is well. Im pretty much done with the design, and now Im just looking to realize that idea into an actual site. Hopefully it wont be too long before I can unveil it. I really love how its turned out and I hope others will share my feelings :D

So, been playing through a couple of games of Civilization 4 so far, awesome stuff, really loving it. To break up the gaming I decided to watch a movie.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
I dont know about you, but after watching the trailer I wasnt exactly excited about it. It did look like they were trying to be funny, but really missed, however expecting a comedy is the totally wrong additude to watch this movie with. Its a family movie, even though its pretty damn far out.

The entire look and feel of the movie is quite awesome. The plot revolves around a poor young lad, Charlie, who is among five winners that gets to enter Willy Wonkas chocolate factory. All these other winners are really awesome caricatures of people, quite funny stuff. Anyway, the look of the movie is enough reason to watch it, its got a really sweetly sick look to it. Also all the music by the wonderful Danny Elfman is pretty cool.

Its a movie that you need to watch when you're in a rather silly mood, and dont go in expecting a usual comedy, but rather a pretty disturbed family movie :)

November 5th, 2005 - Doomed?
So me and a couple of guys from work went to see the Doom movie the other day :)

Doom
I probably dont have to say that I wasnt expecting much, but damn, it was actually worse than my expectations. I mean, most of the movie was actually down right boring. The entire thing with trying to build up some tension with some quiet moments went totally overhand, and just left with a rather tedious action movie. Its not all bad though, some of the action was okay, and they nailed the Doom 3 look pretty nicely. However the entire thing with the monsters being mutated humans is just fucking stupid. I have idea why they didnt just use the original idea with portals from Hell, since the movie is way too fucked as it is. Also the first person scenes that I had hoped would be semi-interesting, were really quite horrible. The entire feel of them were just totally unsyncronized and it looked shite.

Anyway theres alot of shitty stuff here, but I did laugh of it a couple of times, and if you go watch it with some friends then it is pretty fun.

November 3rd, 2005 - Oh they didnt!
Oh yes they did! Liberty City Stories (Thats GTA for the PSP) was again delayed for its Scandinavian release by 2 weeks. Thats the second time. Im just stunned that its happening, because Ive really been looking forward to it :(

Anyway, nothing good will come out of whining, so I went ahead and ordered it in the UK (where its out now), which means I should get my copy somewhere around Monday, which is a whole lot better than wait two fucking weeks!

But its not like I dont have enough to do, theres still a never ending pile of cool games being released each week, which makes it a tad hard to keep up with :G

Oh yeah I checked out that Eminem movie thingy

8 Mile
So yeah, its like this rapper stuff where Eminem plays this shy talented guy with a shitload of problems. I suppose its based roughly on his life, which would explain why hes so angry all the time :)

Anyway, its good and tells the story of how this totally bummed out guy rise to become something.

Oh and tomorrow theres one week to my 21th birthday....scary shit man!

October 30th, 2005 - Rimfongle!
Forgot to mention that I've played an absoultely inhuman dose of Civilization 4. Its as addictive as ever. But I've also been down with Call of Duty 2.

Call of Duty 2
Not much to say about this, it basically follows the formula that made the first one so enjoyable. The gameplay is extremely over the top, even though it tries to have a somewhat realistic feel with ironsights and stuff. Probably the biggest change in COD2 is the fact you dont have to grab medpacks anymore, since you automaticly regain your health ala Halo's shield. Although slightly unrealistic, then it works in the favour of having more insane action. There are some totally insane battles to be had, which I doubt would've worked with the old system.

The graphics usually look really good. Although it has that bumpmapish plastic look to it in some parts, then its generally a really good looking game. Audio is also top stuff. Some awesome music and voice acting, much like the first game. Big love for those german "GRENADE!" shouts, no better way to learn how to speak german ;D

So overall a pretty good shooter. Its by no means anything special, but it succeeds in improving on the first. The entire feel of the game is very solid, which in my opinion makes it the best of the recent swarm of shooters. It is World War 2, but if you can bear with that to have some mad action, then you're in for a treat.

October 29th, 2005 - Shake Your Foundation?
Dont worry, my net isnt gone again, just havent had a real good time to sit down and update the site. Anyway, stuff at work is going good, got my own little project going on at the moment, quite excited about that. Also, lots of cool games are being released now, so theres alot of fun going on right now all round :)

Me and Iceduck also checked out Revenge of the Sith earlier today. We saw the new bonus DVD material the other day, which was quite cool, and certainly worth a watch for anybody into Star Wars. Anyway, I've started to loosen up a bit for this one, and it is quite a good movie all things considered. Obviously it still has its weaknesses, but it is an entertaining movie from start to end. Like you didnt know that already :)

So yeah, Quake 4, completed it last weekend, but here it is.

Quake 4
I've never really been that much into Quake. I mean like anybody I've always loved them from their technological trend setting standards, but as games that truely captivated me, they are not. It is obviously hard to say, since we didnt really think about enviroments and their universe back with the first Quake, those were still the days where anything 3D would be praised. However around the Quake 2 release it began to fade, with opponents such as Unreal and Half-Life then the rather meager universe of Quake didnt really stand that much of a chance as far as im concerned. Thats not to say that the Quake games are bad, they are classics in their own way.

But enough history, Quake 4, is it any good?

Well, its not too bad actually. From the pictures and movies that had be released up to its launch I was very far from impressed. If it hasnt already become obvious, I hate this thing with strange robot demons with flesh hanging onto their metal skeleton and stuff like that. Its getting old. Anyway, the enemies of Quake 4 are horrible, I mean they look truely crappy. Its a shame really because the enviroments have moments where they look really amazing. Its not often, but places like the human's spaceships shows the best that the Doom 3 engine has to offer. The Strogg enviroments on the other hand tends to look pretty dull, although some pretty lighting helps it in many cases, and some of it looks quite good too. The thing is that they're very nicely done, but its just a kinda boring style. I should probably also point out that the human characters look quite good, unlike the enemies. Overall the graphics is something of a mixed bag.

The sound of the game is quite good. The music fit the game, and most of the voice acting is quite well done. Well, actually there was an exception. One of the characters is voice by Peter Stormare, is pretty weak. Don't know if its intentionally for him to sound totally off, but in generally it just sounds like he did his lines for the entire game in like 10 minutes, and there werent any time for retakes :)

And then theres the gameplay. I dont really see how theres anything to have against it, its your basic mindless shooter with hordes of enemies to slaughter, its old but it works. I did get a bit tired of it around the end, but thats to be expected for game of its size when it doesnt have that much variation. There are however some sequences where you get to control tanks and walkers to break up the regular shooting, which is quite nice.

Allround nothing especially exciting, but it does what it sets out to: Be a pretty straight forward shooter.

October 22nd, 2005 - SAVE FERRIS!
Ive seen movies today!

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Matthew Broderick. 80's. Slacking off = WINS!

It really is a cool movie in a really silly way. A real "feel good" movie if you'd like.

Definitely worth your time if you're in a bit silly mood, and want something with 80's written all over it! :D

Alone in the Dark
After having seen a really horrible ad for it with Christian Slater trying to look cool, then I just had to check it out once and for all, to see how bad it actually was.

Its well deserved, this is the worst movie Ive seen in a VERY long time. I mean theres basically no story in it. The entire thing totally lacks any meaning at all. From a totally misplaced and stupid sexscene to the saddest action sequences maybe ever. But these things are just the tip of the iceberg. This is basically a B-Movie that has elements that could have been spend in a way that made it look like a pretty decent action flick, but its just totally messed all around. In fact I already feel sad for myself for spending this much time on talking about it, so I wont.

Dont watch it. Its not even bad fun.

October 21st, 2005 - Rest!
Yikes Im tired right now, really exhausted, and I have no idea why. Anyway, I bought Quake 4 today and I have no idea why since I dont really want it. Well, maybe a little, some stupid mindless action doesnt hurt sometimes. But I also got it since KFS worked on it, and I guess its only nice to support his work. Anyway, I'll see what its like, havent really tried it yet.

Anyway, stuff...

F.E.A.R
I'll keep this short. FEAR (Excuse me for getting tired of all those damned periods!) is a first person action and "horror" game. In it you play a point man for the First Encounter Assault Recon special force, and is sent in to take care of paranormal situations. Such a situation arise when a army of military clones led by strange dude start acting against their purpose and thus you need to take care of stuff.

Anyway, the action in FEAR is awesome, truely stunning and FEAR boasts the best bullettime action in a game to date. I looks and feel awesome. However there are also part of the game where its focused on the "horror" style. This basically consist of you walking through a bunch of really dark rooms, and then sometimes a small girl will walk around in the distance, and stuff like that. I applaud the idea, but fact is that the action is much stronger, and the horror parts of the game just end up being dull and just filler between the action, rather than something interesting. This is especially because the horror part of the game isnt scary at all. Maybe its just me, but I got shocked perhaps 4 times throughout the game, and thats shocked, not scared. Theres a significant difference between the two. Shocking is easy, scaring is not. Dont think that I dont see the need for these breaks between the action to build up tension, but they just feel to long in my opinion.

Anyway, the graphics look pretty good for the most part. The slow motion stuff has this really neat looking sharpening filter on that makes it look even cooler. However the enviroments in which you play are pretty unoriginal, and basically consist of warehouses, office buildings and slum. Especially the office portion of the game is extremely long and is bound to drive you tired. Also the dynamic lighting stuff with the pitch black shadows just isnt cool anymore. Doom 3 could pull off because it was a neat gimmick, but it just looks bad. The entire contrast of the game is just overall messed up by this, and it gives it a very dull look in my opinion. Also the shadows usually try to hide the extremely basic rooms you walk around in. But having that said then FEAR still does look quite good at times. Its got plenty cool effects such as Paralax mapping on walls and bullet holes that make them look like they deform stuff.

The audio side is fine, voice acting is good, music is moody and does a fair job at being creepy.

Overall then FEAR isnt anything special that will change your view on first person shooters. Its a well made game that tries to be something new, and doesnt really succeed in being truely scary. Its action is however some of the best to be experienced at the moment. Also, unlike many games today, FEAR has a totally awesome ending. No spoilers though. So if you're in for some slomo gunfighting, look no further.

Black & White 2
The first game was something special. It was no way near perfect, and no way near a really complete game. But it really tried to do something different with the strategy game gerne. Anyway, my main beef with the first B&W, although I really did like it first off, was the fact that you sometimes felt like you werent all that much in control. It was hard to progress sometimes, which made some of the later levels really tiresome.

Good news is that Black & White 2 takes up where the first game was, makes it alot easier to understand, making it much more dynamic in the way you play, and in general is just a much more enjoyable game to play.

Theres alot of stuff to mention, but I'll just go through what I thought was the most important additions and changes. The creature for example, which was pretty damn important in the first game is back, however this time you play the game without having it in a central role, it is however an addition to your side that makes the game alot easier a times. The main thing with creatures is that now you can see what exactly he's thinking when you're petting or slapping him to make him learn stuff. In the first game you sometimes had no idea if had understood the stuff you thought you were teaching him. So the creature portion of the game is a joy to play with now, except for a really nasty bug later in the game where the creature gets stuck inside your cities if you start building around it if hes there.

Other major changes include the win conditions. In the first game you had to take your creature over the other villages to impress, or do other miraculous stuff. Now you can basically either play it good, but building huge impressive cities, and gaining other peoples following by that way, or be evil and mass huge armies to capture their towns. It is very simple perhaps, compared to what was perhaps intended in the first B&W, but this is a game, lines that set a clear goal are sometimes needed, and especially here it really works.

Theres alot of new stuff, most importantly the army feature of the game, but its too much to mention, and lets just say that it works really well, and it feels more like a complete game than the first B&W.

Another reason why I really like B&W is the visuals. The first game look awesome back when it was released, but damn theres a huge gap between the two. B&W2 is without a doubt one of the best looking games today. From views where you zoom out and can see the entire Island, with amazing water effects and clouds swaying around, to close looks where you can even see ants on the ground. Its sick how good the Level-of-Detail works in this game, but it just looks amazing. Nothing quite like just flying around forrests and just looking at the trees and stuff happening :D

The audio is also good. Excellent music, nice voice acting for the good and evil advicer (which are back from the first B&W).

So all in all a really awesome game. B&W2 isnt perfect, but if you look at this as a work in progress then its quite and improvement. Its a joy to play for the most part, it looks and sounds great, so if you thought the first had some interesting ideas, but didnt bring them out properly, then its time to do your Godly errands again.

A couple of quick movie reviews then ;)

Solaris
So I heard from one of my colleagues that this was one of the best movies ever.

Its good, but it didnt really make that much of an impression on me.

Its about a shrink, Chris Kelvin, who's sent up to a space station orbiting Solaris, a newly discovered planet. Here some really fucked shit is going down, with people appearing out of nowhere, and in the case of Kelvin his its his dead wife. Although it look like a Sci-fi flick then make no mistake, this a drama.

Anyway, its a good movie, which has a really interesting setting and asks some quite cool questions. Also I really like the fact that it doesnt waste any time on unnessecary details, and always skips right to the important stuff.

Kingdom of Heaven
I really appreciate that you like dirty men in armour Ridley, but seriously, make another fucking Sci-fi movie! ;)

Okay, so Ridley Scott goes back and does old stuff again with men in armours and such, once again a movie with huge armies fighting it out, and you dont really give a fuck. As Ive said before, I had enough after LOTR: Return of the King.

Anyway, its about Balian, a blacksmith who turns out to be the son of a high standing crusader knight. He travels to Jerusalem where he eventually end up leading a entrenched army, and fends off an overwhelming attacking force.

This is first and foremost a visual movie. It looks awesome. The story of Balian is quite interesting to follow, but sometimes it just felt a bit too stretched.

Its good however, if you're in the mood for dirty men in armour though :)

October 18th, 2005 - Truely Out of This World...
This was simply too cool to be left out. You can play Out of This World (Aka Another World) through an Apple II emulator on this site. How fucking cool is that? Pretty damn sweet I tell ya! By the way, you need to run it in Internet Explorer since Firefox doesnt support the ActiveX plugin it requires to run.

Oh yeah, lots of reviews and new site design coming up soon!

October 11th, 2005 - Well Well Well....
Well now, dont think that the lack of updates lately is due to laziness. My ISP (a situation which I wont get into details with) apparently had to do some changes at the central, and they had scheduled that on October 11th. However, our net and phone connection went out on September 11th. Thats right, an entire month without internet or phone, really shitty stuff. But I guess I got the best out of a crappy situation, and I got alot of games played, got some mapping done, and Im pretty much done with my new site design. So yeah, its really strange to finally have internet at home again. For a while I thought we would never get net back, and I just tried to accept the fact that I would only use the internet at work, oh dear. But its funny that when I finally get connected again, I almost cant do a thing because theres simply so much to do. And to add on that then I bought Black & White 2 and Brothers In Arms 2 today (In the fear that we wouldnt get our net back :D).

Okay enough whining, heres some stuff...I'll start out with the games.

Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy)
Its not often that these kind of games come by anymore. This is a thriller adventure game, mixed with some action elements and jazzed up with a whole lot of cinematic feel. The result is pretty succesful.

Although you get to control more characters in Fahrenheit, then the main character is Lucas Kane, a regular guy that suddenly out of nothing commits a murder in a New York diner. Kane, not being really conscience at the time is totally shocked over this, and after escaping start trying to figure out whats going on. Meanwhile you also play the police detectives that are one the case, a hot chick and a disco cop :).

The game starts out amazingly well. The entire mood of the beginning of the game is brilliant. You really feel unsafe as Lucas, and the detective work adds a neat alternative angle to everything. Without spoiling anything about the story, then it doesnt stay as strong throughout the game, but its still good through most of the game. I dont think I'll ruin anything by saying that the supernatural stuff that happens later in the game really took me out of the experience, but thats just me theres really tired of that kinda stuff :)

Anyway, the gameplay pretty much consist of you going around examing the areas and when action bursts out (which it gets to alot later in the game) you're present with a Shenmue like set of buttons in different colors that you must hit in the correct order to perform the action correctly. Fail to do so and you fuck it up. Its pretty simple, and although it gets alot more tense later on then its still fairly repetitive around the end of the game. That said it also really makes you focused and it does get quite tense and actionpacked at times.

The graphics are some of a mixed bag. The dont really look bad, but never really look great either. They work fine for what the game is trying to do, which is have a cinematic feel to it. All the characters look fairly good though.

The audio side is pretty top stuff. All the voice acting, which is pretty important in this kind of game, is superb. There are some weak performances, but the main characters are quite good. Also the music is really good, and gives it an extra cinematic edge.

So overall this is a pretty well done game. I tries to be different and it succeeds for the most part. And speaking of different, its probably worth noting that theres a tremendous amount of nudity and sex scenes in this game. I mean stuff that would make the Hot Coffee mod for San Andreas blush, and I think its totally awesome. However that might be what the game is called Fahrenheit in Europe and Indigo Prophecy in the states, maybe its the censored version over there :)

Anyway, be sure to check it out if you're in the mood for something different, and if you got a sweet tooth for adventure games.

Total Overdose
There arent that many game developers in Denmark, some might say that Denmark is an extremely underdeveloped nation when I comes to computer games. For a while IO has pretty much been the only one doing really internationally based products (Apart from the now closed off Media Mobsters). But now another danish developer, which previously made some "interactive multimedia games" has stepped in with a third person shooter. Its cool that theres finally some other danish developers that has some vision, however maybe its a little to early to say that.

Total Overdose is a game that tries to follow the free roaming style that Grand Theft Auto has done so well for a while now. Set in Mexico, you're the twin brother of a DEA agent, who is sent in after your brother is hurt in an operation. Its stupid, and it sounds like a really stupid action movie, but this is what Total Overdose aims for, and for the most part it does it quite well.

Anyway, the missions you embark on usually have you battling hordes of enemies to reach some point or gather something. Theres not much variation to be found. Theres also some secondary missions that you need to finish to further yourself in the Mexican underworld, but these are just the same killing spree after another, just set in different areas, which tends to get kind of tiresome through the game.

However, the action in Total Overdose is pretty good. Its basically Max Payne with some extra stuff such as flipping on the walls, and the mechanics work quite well for the most part. However the free roaming portion of the game is less good. It tries to have the feeling of a world with traffic and pedestrians, just like in GTA. But the entire feel of the enviroments is just dead. All the cars look pretty much the same (and they handle amazingly bad I might add) theres the same props all over the place, most of the buildings look bland and uninteresting, and the world is just too tight and small to feel like a city. After a game such as San Andreas, which has somewhat the same feel as Total Overdose aims for, then it just totally fall apart in comparision. One might even go as far as to say that its a disgrace to compare the two. So the gameplay has some moments, but overall it is kind of weak.

Although I slightly touched on the graphics, then thats a chapter for itself. At times it looks kind nice, but for the most part its extremely bland and boring looking. The textures are über low resolution, the models are extremely low poly. This game is obviously aimed for the consoles, and thats a valid point, however people are able to create relativly good looking games on colsoles, even with their limitations. I guess one positive part of this would be that people with older computers have no problem running it.

The graphics are Total Overdose's weakest point, and blaming it on the textures and modelling detail isnt even fair. Everything from colour settings and lighting feels like no thought had gone into it. In fact if I didnt know better I could easily be fooled into believing that its a 4 year old game. Okay, enough bashing.

The audio side is pretty good. Its got some pretty neat Mexican music, and some more rap influenced music. Also the voice acting is okay.

Overall I cant say that I'd recommend this to anybody. Only reason I really played it was because it was from another danish developer. If you want a game like this you already got San Andreas, and the Mexican style isnt enough reason to play it.

Fable: The Lost Chapters

Yet another Peter Molyneux project that has underdelievered. It even went as far with the original Xbox version that he apoligized for hyping it into something else. Dont let that scare you however, Fable is a solid game that looks and sounds amazing.

Its an RPG where you play through the life of a hero, from a small boy to an old man. The first parts of the game were those that were criticized the most. The growing up portion of Fable was supposed to be dynamic, but it works simply by having a question appear at a point, asking if you want to grow up. Maybe it could have been more than what it turned out as, but it doesnt bring the game down. So its pretty much your basic RPG, you go on quests, kill monsters, gain experience, buy new stuff. Its solid stuff that works excellently.

The graphics of Fable are stunning. One of the best looking games out today for sure. It totally nails the fantasy world feel, and it has enough contrast in its enviroments which range from muddy forrests to icey mountains. Also worth noting is that the character transformation, based on how you play is done to perfection on the visual side. One really neat detail is that when you become evil enough you start growing horns :D.

The audio is top stuff as well. Featuring a soundtrack with music by Danny Elfman, and some really cool british voice acting then theres nothing to complain about. Elfmans music really helps make the game feel like a fairy tale world.

So all in all a really well done game. Although not eventhing Peter Molyneux promised, then its still a good RPG. Its nothing revolutionary, in fact you cant help but feel like you're playing World of Warcraft at times because it feels kinda like that :D. But yeah, if you're looking for a straight forward RPG then look no further.

Now for some movies :)

The Constant Gardener
Me and my buddy Reolged decided to go check a movie, and it turned out that this one was the only decent looking one running at the time. Besides, I had heard some good things about it, and its rare that I go watch this kind of movies in a cinema.

So, its about a British diplomat set in Africa whose wife, something of an activist, is snooping around what the medicine firms are doing there. This starts a process that eventually takes her life and makes our Diplomat start investigating what happend and what she was looking to unveil.

Its got a very realistic setting and it makes the actions and decisions that the main character takes feel somewhat more strong.

Its not a movie thats packed with action (DUH), but its a really good thriller that got something to tell, since most of stuff in it is more or less based on real life facts.

September 13th, 2005 - Gobble Gobble
Beh, been having a rather annoying cold the past few days, but Ive gotten over it now. Kinda weird how I almost always get sick on Saturdays. I think its started on Saturdays like the last 3 times Ive gotten sick. Not that I get sick often though, its something like once every 8 month perhaps.

Anyway, while being rather dozed off then the internet connection was fucked up here, so I decided to check out Lost, a series that I downloaded a shitload of episodes of. I had heard some positive things about it, and its well deserved. Its one of the best series Ive seen in quite a while. The premise is basically that an airliner full of people crash on a remote deserted island, and a bunch of people survive that crash. The thing thats really interesting in Lost however, is the stories behind the characters rather than the actual circumstances. Be sure to check it out if you get the chance.

Oh and Burnout games in 2 days, been looking forward to that.

September 7th, 2005 - ROCK IS ON!
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories!!!

End of October, cant wait! Also, Burnout Revenge (PS2, Xbox) and Burnout Legends (PSP) is out on next Thursday, gonna be so sweeeeet~

Also, I ordered a 2GB Sandisk memory stick for my PSP, but as it turns out the entire shipment of 2GB sticks in Denmark are faulty, which meant that I'd either have to wait a month or get a 1GB, so I went with the latter, and I got it today. So now Im busy loading up movies and series onto it :)

September 3rd, 2005 - Hail Thee Stick!
Ordered a 2GB Sandisk Memory Stick yesterday. Wasnt sure wheter it was gonna be 1GB or 2GB until the second I pressed the order button ;D. Anyway, looking forward to seeing movies and stuff on my PSP, good stuff.

Oh and I was bored so I randomly checked out Idle Hands.

Idle Hands
Not much to say about it. Its a pretty goofy movie where a lazy guys hand starts freaking out and killing people. He cant control it, which eventually leads to him killing his friends as well. They rise from their graves though, but are totally normal and just relax. So its really silly, and kinda pointless. However its got Jessica Alba in it being über hot, so thats one point up for it.

Anyway, not much reason to recommend this movie other than that. It is humorous I guess, but it gets old really quick, although The Alba does help :D

August 31st, 2005 - PrayStation Portable!

So, I finally got my PSP yesterday. Sadly it contains the newer firmware, which means I wont be able to run homebrew on it, which means I wont be able to haxor it, which would've been nice.

But it is one fucking slick gadget. The entire feel of it is just so awesome that I cant even begin to understand why any gamer wouldnt want one of these, and the graphics of the games on it are totally insane. Looks like early generation PS2 games, and I bet they'll get alot better looking very soon.

But the best part of this is that the train rides from and to work just zap by now. Playing Wipeout Pure and Lumines makes Mazzle the happybuns :D!~

Mmmmmm, now I just need to get my hands on a 1GB memory stick~

August 27th, 2005 - Steamed up
So I decided to check out Steamboy :)~

Steamboy
As with most other Japanese anime movies Steamboy's story is far from its main attraction. What is cool about Steamboy however, is its visual style which is pretty fucking amazing to say the least. Its set in the middle of the 19th century where steam power is on the rise. However after some experiment done by the main characters father and grandfather goes wrong in Alaska, and a so called steamball ends up in England, all hell starts breaking loose. The visual side of this movie is enough reason to watch it. Also worth noting is that the music score is superb, along with the english voice overs which are actually quite well done for a change.

Anyway, the story start off pretty good, and the first half or so is quite intense and interesting, but from there it just gets too extreme and ends up getting rather boring. Also theres a REALLY annoying girl in the movie, who serves no point for the story what so ever. Without her the movie would've been alot better to begin with.

So yeah, watch it if beautiful anime is right up your alley, but dont expect anything from the story.

August 21st, 2005 - Movie madness?
Been watching lots of stuff today. Saw Dune (the 1984 David Lynch one) last night. Then I checked out Crash and Ed Wood today. :O!

Dune
In Short. Its overrated, and perhaps its just me that was expecting something else, or more, but I was just left bored with it. I saw the 3 hour version, which felt REALLY long. This thing with mental stuff just felt stupid and got old really fast. Also the stuff where you would suddenly hear characters thoughts didnt really work very well. It works quite well if you have it with one person, but it just kept being used with almost every character in the movie :).

Anyway, the story of Paul Atreides rising against the Emperor and Harkonnen was pretty nice, but the only motivation I had for watching the entire of this movie was my love for Dune 2. I've been wanting to watch the movie for very long, since I was expecting big cool battles, but none of that was to be found in this. So if you love the game and expect something with battles, then this isnt the way to go. However, this movie does deserve some credit since it probably did influence Westwood alot when the did the game :)

Dune | 2 georfs out of 5 georfs

Crash
Its been getting alot of good reviews, and its well deserved. Its basically one of those now rather common movies where lots of peoples paths cross and you get a look at all of it. This one is about racism and prejudices, and how everybody is helping fueling them, but also how its often misplaced. Its a good movie, which actually felt a bit short, but it gets around most of its characters quite well, and considering how many people it follows then thats quite well done :)

Anyway, be sure to check it if you're in the mood for something more serious.

Crash | 4 georfs out of 5 georfs

Ed Wood
As with any other Tim Burton movie then this one features Johnny Depp ;)

Hehe, seriously though, its about the man, also known as the worst director of all time, Ed Wood.

It follows the workings of Wood and how he tries to cobble together some movies, especially using washed up Dracula actor Bela Lugosi. Its a funny movie, that doesnt take it self too seriously, which ironically also has the actors sometimes acting poorly, making it feel like an Ed Wood movie I'd assume.

Ed Wood | 3 georfs out of 5 georfs

Oh and now, after having seen Dune, I totally wanna play Dune 2 again. Cursed D:

August 20th, 2005 - Muh
Preordered a PSP the other day, thought it'd be the wisest thing to do considering that I got a bunch of screen protectors already. Also, it might be hard to get one, or something. Hmmm, the european PSP comes with 2.0 firmware though, hmmmm.

Anyway, I checked out The Island <:)

The Island
No fancy stuff, just saying what I think. Around first half of it is pretty good, its some of the usual "paranoia/we're being watched/is this the real world?" that so many movies today has. Its okay though, although you cant shake the feeling that you've seen it before. Anyway, second half is pretty much just action. Michael Bay is pretty good at this (if nothing else), but the action sequences in The Island just felt kinda empty afterwards, even though theres alot of stuff happening. There were a few exceptions though, and for the most part that part worked relativly okay. Also some of the sequences felt like they were taken straight out of Bad Boys 2, yikes.

Its just that the first and second parts didnt really feel like the same movie. It felt more like 2 movies that had been slapped together, and the action was there just to deliver something for the thrill seeking audience.

So yeah, its pretty much what I expected. Its got some Big Brother'ish stuff going on, some action, Ewan McGreggor with a funny American accent, and Scarlet Johansson being the über hotness. Not too bad actually, but you wont really miss much by not seeing it.

August 17th, 2005 - The usual...
Been giving Battlefield 2 some more deserved time. Already up at my usual self again, just took a few games. Hate it when you get these breaks from games that you're still interested in, but its purely for other matters than lack of interest. So yeah.

Ive also been watching an absoulte massive dose of Mythbusters. I totally love this show, and after watching one I just want another. I seriously think I could sit and entire day and just watch em and still ask for more :). Anyway, its really cool that Discovery Channel has one on every evening, especially since I cant find them for download D:

Oh yeah I also ordered some screen protectors for the PSP. Thats even though I havent gotten a PSP yet, but theres nothing wrong with being prepared :)

August 15th, 2005 - Bling!
Just a quick update to show that Im not dead. Been firing up a bit with the Battlefield 2'ness. Sucked horribly a few days ago, now im back rockin! (or something). Still figuring out stuff with Arbogast!

Anyway, links!

Audio Atrocities - Site with the worst of game voice acting! GOLD!
Chrisopher Walken 2008 - ChrisW for prez, respect!

Thought I had another link, but I cant remember it. How Embarressing D:

August 10th, 2005 - Cricket!
I've kinda put my Half-Life 2 map on hold, as I'm rethinking what I want to do with the rest of the map. Thats the wonderful thing about deathmatch maps, you dont really need a solid layout to make the map. At least thats my philosophy regarding deathmatch design, and its worked out fine so far.

Anyway, I need to mention that Burnout 4 (Revenge, PAH! Like Im gonna call it that!). Its going to be out in little over a month, and its going to shake the very foundations of our society....TWO TIMES. Its big, real big. Burnout 3 more or less layed our team at IO in ruins for a week or so, or at least it felt like that :). But its my fear that unless I get my map done before its release, then Im gonna be knocked out of my recent mapping spree, and that map shall once again lie around and gather dust.

Hmmmm.

Oh yeah I got my fingers on Home Alone. Been wanting to check it out for ages. Haven't seen it in like 10 year or something, I reckon its gonna be a terrifying experience, although I hope the opposite.

Lastly, why cant more commercials be like this one?

August 7th, 2005 - Flaktaffery!
So, been mapping quite alot the past week. Still a long way to go at this pacing, doubt my first assessment that I would be done by the end of this month, but its looking quite good.

What isnt helping me getting it done is my newly found love for the Discovery Channel program, Mythbusters. Until a few weeks ago I hadnt heard of it, but after some of the guys at work showed it to me my interest grew swiftly.

Anybody who has seen the show knows that its good stuff since its great fun and you actually learn stuff. Also they blow up stuff whenever they get the chance, which is quite often :D

So if you havent already seen it then consider yourself advised now.

Also, after I saw a fella at work play some Viewtiful Joe, I really wanted to have another go at it. Its with great shame that I can say that I bought the game, but only played it for around 10 minutes. This is another example of why you simply shouldnt buy more games at once, and in this case not buy 4 games at once. But so far its been great, and Im really glad I finally gave it another try.

August 2nd, 2005 - Okay enough ;)

Enough with the single shots for now. Just thought it would be neater to constrain myself and only release a few pictures slowly. Expect more soon.

August 1st, 2005 - Yeeeeees

July 31th, 2005 - Arbogast...

July 30th, 2005 - At last!
Been working quite a bit on my Half-Life 2 map, so expect some pictures of it very soon :)

July 27th, 2005 - On Pursuit!
I vaguely remember seeing a trailer from this game a while ago, but I only just recently realized how fucking cool it looks when I saw it on my Gamespot DVDs. I mean, the idea of having hi-speed pursuits, and then having your guy jump on other vehicles and fighting them on em, and then suddenly jump on a chopper and gun them down. Looks pretty damn sweet, especially for a PSP game.

Check out the trailer at Gamespot, and IGN (Guh) has some more movies from it.

Oh and Doom movie teaser trailer.....eh
