March 6th, 2005 - iRox!
So, after waiting a very long while I finally got myself an iPod. Been waiting a good long time to get one, so after the pricecut I bought one :))

So yeah, 60gb iPod photo, very pwn. Got myself a dock and remote for it as well, so it actually ended up costing almost as much as it did before the pricecut :o

Anyway, cool stuff, I hope I get tired of World of Warcraft soon so I can update the site more often ;D

Oh and Im planning on trying and doing some new design for the site myself as well, wanna see I can actually do it :)

March 1st, 2005 - YIKES!
Waaaaay too much World of Warcraft, I know ;)

Anyway, today is a very special day. Exactly one year ago I began my journey into the gaming industry and started at my job in IO. I gotta admit that its gone extremely fast, and I still have a hard time believing that there has indeed gone one year :)

But yeah, awesome stuff. Also reminds me to appreciate actually having a job I enjoy so much, and having such awesome coworkers. Good times~

And speaking of good times, World of Warcraft! What can I say, I love it! At least so far, and even though I assume that it will inevitably get boring then Im just enjoying every minute of it, Mazzle review soon! :D

See you in a week! (Just kidding! I hope D:)

February 19th, 2005 - Wow!
Well, Its safe to say that Im totally hooked on World of Warcraft. Everytime I get home from work I just rush for the computer and play it until like 01:00. I guess I might have unestimated it, but it really is quite amazing. A thing worth mentioning is that this is without a doubt the game where I have found the best team work, of any game, ever. Every person Ive teamed up with on quests is kind and always want to try out some tactics on how to get some monsters down n stuff, its really quite awesome.

Oh yah, I came across this movie while checking Shacknews. It shows a post apocalyptic game (much much like Fallout) which was in development by Troika. Sadly Troika has shut down (/me hugz Zaphod :((~), which will most likely make it more painful to watch, because it looked very promising :(~

February 13th, 2005 - Ta'fuckin'da!
Wow Im really taking some big breaks from the site at the moment, not intentionally, obviously, lots of stuff to do at the moment ;)

Okay fire off, Iceduck has started working on a new design for mazy.net, since this design is starting to get a tad old (Ive used it for like 4 years, and it still does hold up very well too). Anyway, good stuff, I just need to bugger him into doing it a bit differently perhaps :)

So, moving on. Yesterday me and some of the guys from work set up a movie night at IO, where we set up a pretty damn cool cinema with projector shizzle and nizzle. There were supposed to be some more guys, but we ended up being 4 guys which was nice and cozy. So we saw Predator, Robocop 1 and Moon 44. The last mentioned was somewhat....lacking in quality, but it was still quite fun, and obvious the other movies are cool stuff. Anyway, we plan on having another movie night so cool stuff.

As I didnt have enough uncompleted games as it is, then I bought World of Warcraft and Knights of the Old Republic 2 the other day. Havent had time to check out KOTOR2 yet, but World of Warcraft is quite cool so far, although perhaps a tad repetitve, but I hope that will change later. Its the first MMORPG Ive really played, so its quite nice, and the visuals and sound are quite awesome. In case you got it, then Im playing on "Bloodhoof" as Mazy, and Im a night elf.

Wow after saying that I feel like a total geek....heeeey wait a second...

Anyway, signing off is your main reggin here, Mazy!

February 5th, 2005 - Shabby Tale
Once again, popped on a movie...

Shark Tale
Ive always found it strange with Shark Tale. First Pixar makes A Bugs Life, then Dreamworks comes with Antz. Both movies with insects. Then Pixar comes with Monsters Inc, and Dreamworks with Shrek (I know that one isnt that close, but still works if you push it a bit ;D), and now Pixar did Finding Nemo, underwater movie with talking fish, and Dreamworks come with Shark Tale, underwater movie with talking fish.

Hmmmm...

Anyway, where as Finding Nemo had a nice story Shark Tale is carried by a very thin one. Its about Oscar, a fish whos been dreaming of a celebrity life, which he gets after an anchor hits a shark that was hunting him and he takes the credit for killing it. The story also go around Lenny, the brother of the dead shark, who has to take over his fathers mafia empire, but isnt fit for it since he lacks the aggressiveness his father desires. So the movie is pretty much about how Oscar realizes that fame isnt exactly what he wanted, and Lenny just wants his father acceptance for who he is.

Its very predictable, and I found myself just wanting the story to move one since I had already figured out what was going to happen. Its got some few okay funny moments, buts not really something that will do more than make you smile a bit.

Shark Tale does have a nice style though. The gritty underwater city is pretty original, and feels very different from the more traditional underwater enviroments found in Finding Nemo. Also most of the voice acting is well done, although it feels more like a movie driven by the big name actors that play the characters, rather than some unique and interesting characters.

So yeah, an okay movie, but you wont miss much by not seeing it :)

February 4th, 2005 - Ey Comrade
Was tired....again, so I popped on a movie...

Enemy at the Gates
So yeah war movie stuff. It takes place during World War 2 in Stalingrad, just as the German invasion is at its highest. A low ranked russian marksman proves that he has some skill with a rifle while with a political officer in the Russian army, and suddenly his example is used as a morale booster in the whacked up Russian army.

Enemy at the Gates does go around a couple of things, such as how the Russian army tried to find some succesful way of boosting the soldiers morale instead of just killing them and how their propaganda machines ran, but the main focus is the battle between the russian sniper and some hotshot german major sniper. However these duel scenes (and theres alot of them) are really boring, and since there usually no real tension going on in them then they end up being rather pointless. Also, Enemy at the Gates sometimes lack structure. It just jumps around from place to place from situations that you would otherwise think were places where the main character could easily get killed, but apparently that doesnt matter. Its not that its like this throughout the entire movie, but there were a few spots that I found kind of strange.

Anyway, it was fairly entertaining, but far from what I expected (something along the lines of Saving Private Ryan, with more focus on fluid action scenes), but its still a pretty okay movie.

February 3rd, 2005 - Getty Up!
FlickerFlackerFlockel! I saw Collateral you pimp!

Collateral
Its basically about a hitman, Vincent (Tom Cruise), who arrives in LA and has to go around and...do his job on some people, he then finds the cabbie Max (Jamie Foxx) to drive him around. Anyway, he figures out what Vincent is really doing, and it starts to get all intense.

Anyway, its a pretty good movie, although in the end nothing special. But it keeps you entertained while you're watching it, and what more can you ask for? :)

February 2nd, 2005 - I Saw Saw
I was so fucking tired when I came home so I just popped a movie on...

Saw
I dont really watch that many horror/thriller movies, mainly because they usually do a very poor job at keeping me interested throughout the entire movie. Anyway, Saw did an okay job at keeping me interested, at least for the first 30 minutes.

Its about two guys, a doctor and some dude, who wake up in an old industrial bathroom thing, tied to some pipes in each side of the room, with a dead guy lying between them, and with some madman watching them play his sick mindgames! Anyway, without spoiling anything then the part of the story which takes place in the bathroom is quite cool and intense, at least in the start. The movie does lose some of its momentum when it starts going into these flashbacks.

Anyway, further into the movie it does lose its intense feel, and the stuff outside the bathroom scenes often feel boring and stretched out.

But for a genre where Ive usually been really disappointed lately, then Saw did a pretty good job, even though it does go a bit sour after a while.

February 1st, 2005 - Hallehuja!
Me and Iceduck went on a little trip and checked out some Apple Cinema Displays. He's totally buying one, but Ive not yet totally decided wheter Im getting one, or rather when I should get one.

But after you've seen the 30" then you cant go back.....well, you can when you consider the fact that you need Dual DVI to use it! :)

But it is cool, really cool. They're all cool. But Im just not sure if its a good idea or time to buy one. If I get one, that will be my only monitor for now, since I have no room for my other one, and Im still not sure if its that good for the kind of games I play. But apart from that then its sweet, but I would probably have to go with the 20", since the 23" (which otherwise seems like the perfect choice for me) is supposed to be kinda buggy and lots of people are having problems with it.

Hmmm, anyway, I doubt I'll get one anytime soon, but after Iceduck gets his then I'll probably be too weak to resist.

January 30th, 2005 - Soze?
Still havent quite gotten over how good these speakers are, but its slowly winding off. Awesome stuff, especially when you play stuff like Doom 3 where the sound is pretty vital for the feel of the game.

Anyway, saw The Usual Suspects again, amazing movie, and even though I thought it wouldnt be very good the second time then it does hold up very well. Im still kinda pissed that I wasnt paying that much attention to it the first time I saw it. Maybe it was because I got into it half way through. Its too bad though, with an ending like that it deserves better. But still, havent ruined the awesomeness :)

Oh and Ive been playing alot of Counter-Strike: Source, especially on the new map, de_tides. Although I wasnt terribly excited about it at first, then Ive started to really like it. The layout provides some interesting tactics, since its mostly open, yet has alot of close quaters as well, and then it looks nice in all its cartooniness :)

January 24th, 2005 - YIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIR!!!!
I got my speakers and they RAAAAAAWK!

January 23rd, 2005 - Knock'em Down!
Ive been playing stuff...

Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
Ive been keeping my eye on this game for quite a while. Both because it looks good and also for matters which I'll get into some other time.

Anyway, the premise of Mercenaries is pretty simple. You're a contract killer dude who's brought into North Korea just as all shit is breaking down there. The son of the former president has staged a coup, and now threatens the world with his nuclear weapons.

The game is set up around the "Deck of 52", which is the same thing they did in Iraq, where every high ranking member of army has a card number. Its then your job to get all these, dead or alive, and eventually get General Song, the guy in charge.

Mercenaries unique selling point is (besides being a GTA'ish sandbox game) the ability to destroy all the buildings you see, and basically just leave nothing but destruction around you. Though this is really cool the first while you play the game, then it does tend to get rather old around the end of the game, which is quite long by todays standards by the way.

To destroy stuff you obviously got you standard hand weapons, but you can also go into every vehicle and use them to cause havok. But perhaps the most interesting thing is the ability to call in outside support, which range from airstrikes, artillery strikes, carpet bombing, nukes and stuff like that. Again, in the start of the game this is really fucking awesome, but around the end of the game these things tend to lose their coolness. But still, nice :)

Another pretty neat thing is the ability to call in a vehicle drop if you're stranded in the middle of nowhere, and need something to drive. You can also call in drops with medicine, ammo and weapon if you're low on that.

Although Mercenaries does a pretty good job at having a world where you can go around and do whatever you want (which means destroying stuff), then the enviroment cant really shake off the feeling of just being a shitload of canyons instead of being open land. Especially after playing San Andreas which had a really open feel to it, then this cant help but feel really limited. However, to make up for this then Mercenaries looks really good most of the time, especially their particle system is totally amazing.

The audio side of Mercenaries is quite good. It features a main theme by one of my favorite composers, Michael Giacchino, which although being pretty good, is overused way too much, and around the end of the game you've probably been driving totally insane by it. Apart from that then the music is really good, and also the voice acting is pretty good, with the exclusion of your coordinator, which is this really annoying Australian chick.

Although not quite as good as I had hoped, then its still a pretty good game, which should be something for anybody that likes to see stuff blowing up :)

January 22nd, 2005 - Typical
Been sorta short on updates lately, Im kinda flappy at the moment, meh.

Anyway, the thing with my new audio setup has developed itself a rather frustrating situation. I was supposed to pick up the speakers on Thursday, but when I then came over to the store they apparently didnt have any, even though they were supposed to fucking order some new ones. Anyway, first strike, Im a fairly forgiving person, and even though I was pissed, then I gave them another chance to sell it to me. We decided that I would take the amplifier with me (since they had it), and that they would then order the speakers directly from the main storage place, and send them directly to me via express mail so I could get them Saturday to make up for their pretty embarressing situation. Anyway, I thought that they couldn't fuck up more, but as it turns out the didnt come, and I now have to wait until Monday to see if they even fucking remembered to send them.

My trust in these guys is very slim (If not to say non-existant), and if they dont deliver the speakers on Monday then Im seriously going berserk. Its incredible that they simply cant get it right even after so many chances. I also thought of the possibility that the mail was somehow tied up some place without them being involved, but Im still fucking pissed.

Thats the last time I shop there, no doubt.

Anyway, to cheer this update up a bit then Ive been playing a bit of Mercenaries, that new GTA'ish game set in North Korea. I was really looking forward for this game, and it is quite good, although a tad limited in its gameplay in the long run. Im pretty near the end of the game now, so expect a review soon.

Meh, cant shake the fucked up feeling of this day off. I hate when you basically sit and wait an entire day for something, and then it ends up not coming anyway, fucking sucks. FUCK FUCK COCK FUCK!!!

Phew

January 15th, 2005 - Sounds good!
Just came home from the audio hardware shop thingy, bought some über shizzle, wont get it until Thursday next week though. Still, its some heavy duty shit, I also paid alot for it, but this is also stuff that I plan on having for a long time.

Anyway, for anybody interested, then I bought this NAD amplifier, and these B&W speakers. Some awesome sound, but Im easy to impress when it comes to sound setups, so hmm :)

But yeah, good stuff

January 10th, 2005 - SWEET FREEDOM!
Just saw Team America with the Icecuq

Team America
Im not really that much of a South Park fan anymore. I mean I used to like it, but I sorta grew away from that kind of humour. Anyway, even though Team America is from the guys that does South Park, then its sure alot more fun.

Team Americas perhaps greatest strength is its take on the way America is acting out in the world (hence the title, Team America - World Police). In every country where the team goes they blow up all the landmarks and leave it in ruins. Also the constant blabbering about freedom is spot on. It isnt like they're taking a stand though, everybody gets a treatment, especially the anti-war celebs who all die in the hands of Team America.

Anyway, another great thing about this movie is thats pretty much a parody of your generic Jerry Bruckheimer movie. Everything that makes your average Bruckheimer movie is in this one, and its good to finally see somebody taking a piss on this.
Thing is however that I think alot of people arent gonna notice these references, and are probably just gonna think that the movie is actually trying to be like this. I hope Im wrong though.

Anyway, I quite enjoyed this one, its not a masterpiece, but the fact that it looks cheap and crappy on purpose just adds to enjoyment.

January 7th, 2005 - Pride
Check out this interview. Its with Nintendos former CEO, the guy that made Nintendo what it is today. There is some stuff going around about it being fake, but I certainly hope not because this guy is just amazing!

Be sure to read it, its worth it!

January 3rd, 2005 - Mystique
So, work, not too bad.

Anyway, I checked out Mystic River earlier

Mystic River
I didnt really know what to expect from this movie, but since it got 2 Oscars (One each for Sean Penn and Tim Robbins) then it sounded like good stuff, and it is.

The story isnt that special to be honest, but some very good acting makes it work better than most other thrillers. Its basically about the murder of Sean Penns characters daugther, and how that effects him and some of his childhood friends. It does a very good job at making you think that you know whos the killer, yet you're never quite sure, such as a good thriller should be :)

Anyway, I really liked this one, even though some of the ending seemed a bit strange on me, but apart from that then its a really kickass movie.

January 2nd, 2005 - Gah again...
I never learn. I always start off my vacations by saying that I'll spend my time extremely well, yet I always end up wasting it in the worst ways possible, or so it seems when its over anyway.

So yeah, gotta get back to work tomorrow, doesnt really bother me but I sure wouldnt mind having another week to waste.

Anyway, I usually feel like Im wasting my time better when I watch stuff, so I decided to check out The Manchurian Candidate.

The Manchurian Candidate
I didnt really know what to expect from this movie, but it actually turned out to be pretty good

Its about a veteran from the first gulf war, Ben Marco (Denzel Washington), who has alot of strange memories that he cant quite connect with the official story of what happend during a mission.

The official story was that a member of his unit fought a huge enemy force, and saved everybody, but in Ben's dreams everything looks alot more twisted. That guy that saved everybody is now running for Vice President, and that provides some interesting developments.

This is the sort of movie where its best not to know too much about the plot. The story is pretty nice, and it does have alot of conspiracy theories in it, but it did turn out to be a bit predictable, at least I thought so.

Anyway, theres some good acting, and theres not one dull moment, so its certainly worth a watch if you're into conspiracy theories n' shit ;)

January 1st, 2005 - And so it goes...
Happy new year..

Now do your thing

December 27th, 2004 - Eh
Just checked out that Dodgeball movie...

Dodgeball
Yikes! I gotta stop watching these cheap american comedies, but I guess Im just hoping to be surprised by a good one, still havent found one.

Dodgeball is for the most part just about physical humour, and basing an entire movie on that makes its survival chances pretty hard in my world. It does try to be funny in other ways, but none of these scenes work either.

The story is about the owner of a small time gym who is getting bought out by the bigtime competitor next door, and has to find a way to get 50.000 dollars within a month. Anyway, one thing leads to another and him and a bunch of his friends end up playing dodgeball to win some money. Brilliant story...

Its so incredibly predictable, and I kept thinking that there would be a twist to the story, but it just played out like I thought it would, which roughly means that I could've stopped watching the movie after being 30 minutes into it.

If I do have to give this movie some credit then there was a few times where I almost smiled, and Chuck Norris is in it too, so that rescues it from being a complete failure.

December 27th, 2004 - Bling Bling!
Been doing stuff, working on my HL2DM map, doing okay progress. Also I saw The Blues Brothers again earlier today, strange thing is that I just got it and they actually showed it in TV yesterday, spooky stuff. Anyway, cool movie, obviouly ;).

So yeah, I completed Ace Combat 5 the other day :)....

Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War
Im not really that much into flying games, but Ace 5 was actually alot of fun. Its probably because its extremely arcadey and fast paced, but I was still somewhat surprise in how cool it actually was.

Anyway, its about a bunch of fighter pilots in the Osean army (fictive country :P), who start off in the game with being these über rookies, but as the game moves on, and a huge war filled with conspiracy theories unfold, you end up with becoming legendary heroes of the entire war. Some of the story elements might be a tad overdone, but for the most part then I really liked it, and it also helped to keep you interested in getting to the next mission.

The gameplay is what you'd expect from a combat flight game, you fly around and take out boogies with your funky homing missles. Theres also alot of variation in the missions, which range from standard "kill em all stuff" to recon runs and missions where you have to protect other planes. Theres enough variation to keep the gameplay fresh during the entire game, and the fact that you unlock new planes that you can buy after each missions also encourages you to try and take out more enemies so you can get more money and better planes. Theres also a shitload of awesome planes to found in Ace 5.

The graphics are pretty awesome for the most part, especially for a PS2 game. All the terrain and skies look amazing, and provide some nice stuff to look at while you buzz around and take out foes at blazing speeds. And most importantly, the planes look kickass :). Theres also some nice CG cutscenes to tell the story and such

Theres also some really neat stuff to be found on the audio side. All the voice acting is pretty good, and its always cool to hear enemy pilot start off as smartasses, and end up flying away scared during a fight. Some of the music is really awesome as well, and helps to really put you in these tense situations where everything depends on you.

So all in all then this game is just pretty damn kickass. It might be a tad easy sometimes, and some of the gameplay can tend to get a bit frustrating when a long mission fucks up during the end, and the gameplay might not really be the most original thing ever done, but it does however work pretty damn well. If you in general just like action games then you should check out Ace Combat 5, and if you like arcadey flying games then you need to try this one ;)

Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War | 4.5 georfs out of 5 georfs

...also, I checked out Romeo Must Die...

Romeo Must Die
In general I sorta like these kind of movies, since they're extremely light and braindead entertainment, but this one did nothing for me at all.

Its about a conflict between a asian gang and a black gang in america. After the son of the asian gang is murdered, and alot of other shit starts going down, Han (Jet Li) breaks out of prison in Hong Kong to goto america and figure out who did it, and revenge his brothers death. Anyway, theres alot of black stuff going on in this movie as well, which is fine I guess, but I just got really fucking tired of this lame R&B music or whatever you call it. Fucking annoyed the living shit outta me. Sounds like crap. Yikes!

Anyway, theres a few cool fight scenes, but thats about it. Theres not really much that makes you care for any of the people in this movie, and it just gets boring really fast.

Lots of good food and presents yesterday, very goo.

Also, just checked out Quicktime.com through, lots of good stuff coming, especially this one looks really cool

Oh yeah, speaking of cool, they're actually doing an american version of Dark Water.
Its the only thing that Ive given 0 georfs :)

December 23rd, 2004 - Yikes!
Hmmm, my Half-Life 2 Gold package was here with the mail today, but nobody was home since they were all off to pick up my sister at the airport so they took the delivery guy took my HL2 with them. Anyway, turns out Ive been too late and that I'll have to wait until after the weekend before I can get it. Not a big deal to be honest, but annoying anyway.

The last couple of days at work have been really productive (Im being sarcastic by the way). We've been playing lots of HL2DM with the physics pumped up so that you can throw cars around, really awesome stuff :)

Anyway, probably wont update until after tomorrow, so you have a merry fucking christmas ;)

December 18th, 2004 - Wh00t W00
Ahh, there was the IO Xmas party yesterday, was good stuff. Drank alot tho, but it was alot of fun :)

Anyway, in my rather light hangover I checked out The Chronicles of Riddick, and I already checked out Alien Vs Predator. Its review time :)

The Chronicles of Riddick
After getting the Riddick game (which I still havent had a chance to check out D:!) then I figured it would be nice to check out the movie.

The movie is about Riddick (DUUUH!), the spooky ball fella from Pitch Black, played once again by Vin Diesel. The good thing about Vin Diesel in this movie is that he's sorta accepted the fact that he isnt a very good actor, and therefore plays on his brutish look, and for the most part it works quite well, because he does look quite cool :)

Anyway, the movie is basically about Riddick trying to escape a bunch of people pursuing him, while actually ending up in the middle of a war between two factions.

The story is pretty rubbish, and its obviously the action stuff thats been paid most attention. These scenes are pretty good but never really impressed me.

Anyway, its a pretty okay movie, but theres not really anything in this that you havent already seen somewhere else.

The Chronicles of Riddick | 2.5 georfs out of 5 georfs

Alien Vs Predator
I started watching this movie with the absoultely lowest expecations that I could possibly have, and it was actually even worse than what I was expecting.

The concept of this money movie? Some hotshot richman finds a temple in the middle of some glacier shit, and since he wants to get there before everybody else he assembles a worthless piece of shit crew to go there. Anyway, blafuckingbla, they get to the temple, whine around a bit, predators come there, aliens are there, they fight blablabla. Its fucking boring. Everybody just dies, and theres no motivation to keep watching this movie, its just pointless. Also this movie is a goldmine of braindead quotes. I found myself shouting out "WHAT THE FUCK!" when I was watching it, even though I was alone, thats how messed up it is :)

Highlights? None really. The special effects are okay though, but even they have a nasty habbit of looking really cheap and not that well done at times.

Theres not really much point in watching this movie, especially since it seems like they're trying to totally ruin and fuck up the use of the Alien and Predator franchises.

December 15th, 2004 - O Perry!
Once again I feel a need to link to The Perry Bible Fellowship. This guy is a genius, seriously, he needs to get some TV show or something.

December 13th, 2004 - O Lord
Just finished watching The Fellowship of the Ring, the extended edition. Spend the entire evening watching it, and even though spending roughly 3 hours and 30 minutes on it, then it still reminded how great these movies are. I gotta admit that I had somewhat lost my fascination of LOTR, but its simply just been too long since Ive seen any of the movies. Anyway, Ive gotten into that special mood again, and Im ready to go on with The Two Towers, might see it tomorrow then. Its funny though, even though alot of the extra scenes in the extended versions dont really add that much, then theres still alot that do, which also explains alot of things and totally make it worth watching these rather long movies. Anyway, I already saw The Fellowship of the Ring in the extended edition before, but the other remain new to me, so those are gonna be more interesting to check out I reckon.

Oh yeah, I bought that Riddick game for the PC today, even though Im not that much into the Riddick stuff (Havent seen the new Riddick movie yet btw), then the game has gotten amazing reviews, so I thought it was my duty to check it out.

December 12th, 2004 - Nabdap
As I already mentioned then I got my Matrix boxset (10 discs), and I bought the Lord of the Rings extended boxset Friday, so now Ive got more than enough stuff to watch. I havent even begun watching anything from the LOTR boxset, but Ive decided that it would be best to just take one boxset at a time, and so far Ive seen alot of the Matrix stuff. Some really awesome extra material, I didnt even think about how much work that must've gone into it, but its just insane when you watch the extra material. Then I also watched Matrix Revolutions again yesterday, its actually only the second time I watched it, but it is alot better the second time you see it, even though I still dont like the ending (I would've prefered a really sad ending instead of this).

Anyway, I'll probably get on with the LOTR boxset next weekend.

Oh and Ive been playing quite a bit of Ace Combat 5, Im actually really enjoying it even though my inital impression was kinda meh

December 7th, 2004 - 4 Life!
Yeah Im really trying to be gangsta. Ack D:!

Anyway, Ive been fiddling around, and I accidentially started a Half-Life 2 Deathmatch map. I have no intentions of winning that contest that Valve has started, although if the map turns out well then I might try and go for it. Its more of a pet project, I just wanna try and fiddle with all the new cool stuff, which has been really fun so far. Anyway, expect pics soon I guess (Haha, this is just like olds days eh? :D)

Also, I ordered the 10 disc Ultimative Matrix boxset, which has just been released. It should arrive tomorrow. And on another note, then I got my San Andreas hoody a while ago, really nice stuff.

Oh yeah, I checked out Road to Perdition yesterday

Road to Perdition
This one is about the son of Mike Sullivan, a gangta hitman (Tom Hanks), who discovers his fathers profession by spying on him while hes doing his job, and he is caught after it. After his his family is murdered, with the exclusion of his spying son, he decides to go on quest for revenge, and takes his son with him.

Although the story is cool enough, then its the visual side of the movie that impressed me the most. Its a really nice looking movie, with some really awesome looking scenes, and in general then the look just has a really neat desaturated feel to it which works nicely with the 30s setting of the movie.

Also Ive been playing some Pirates! (Thats the remake of the Sid Meier original). Really cool stuff as well.

Anyway, heres some new totally kickass Battlefield movies, be sure to check both the short and long one :)

November 28th, 2004 - Eh
Finally pulled myself together and saw The Ladykillers, the new one...

The Ladykillers
In case you havent seen the original, then its basically about a gang of criminals who plans on robbing a transport of money, and use the home of an old lady to reside in. Anyway, the original is a really good movie, this new one on the other hand seems really weak when you compare it. Instead of an armored transport they have to rob the cash depot of a ferry casino. Apart from that then the story is pretty much the same, apart from the addition of some different characters and a different enviroment.

In general then I really like the Coen brothers movies, but this one just felt dragged out with nothing really interesting added, and the original is just a whole lot better, so I recommend you go watch that instead.

Tom Hanks is very untamed though, although that does get a bit tiresome after a while as well.

November 27th, 2004 - Pretty Incredible
So I saw The Incredibles yesterday...

The Incredibles
I doubt that its a secret that Pixar's movies are always totally amazing. Not only are their movies the best animation movies, but they easily rank up with the very best of the regular movies. So with expectations like that you usually expect a new Pixar movie to be less good than the previous one, and usually you're blown away and totally surprised by something much superior from what you expected.

Let me start out by saying that The Incredibles is a really awesome movie. Its easily one of the best movies Ive seen in a while, but when I compare it to other Pixar movies (which I sadly cant help but do) then I dont really think that it stands as strong as their most recent movies did.

The story is basically about the superhero, Bob Parr a.k.a Mr. Incredible, who is sued after he saves a guy that wanted to commit suicide, and there after he just has to relocate and start a normal life with his superhero wife and their superhero children. Anyway, the normal life is obviously tearing Bob down, and he ends up losing his deskjob, but is then contacted by some mysterious people to get back into superhero action. Some of the bits with Bob trying to constraint himself are probably some of the most funny bits of The Incredibles, but in general then its just alot of fun throughout the entire movie.

The visual side of The Incredibles is really quite cool for the most part. Some of the graphics are quite simple, and I had an annoying habbit of checking out how easily they had gotten off on some of their stuff, but obviously this is because the movie does play with this simplistic 50's feel. It looks good, but its not really a revolution in 3D animation movies, but then again, Pixar has reached a point where they dont have to proove themselves to anybody anymore. Theres also some really kickass characters to be found in this movie, especially Bob's deskjob boss ;D

The sound side of The Incredibles was pretty much perfect. All the voices for the characters were good, even though there was some problem with the lipsyncing, but I reckon that I should rather blame the cinema for that. Also the music was really cool as well, some awesome stuff from Michael Giacchino again.

So, while the story is pretty nice, then it does feel like it sort of loses its momento towards the end of the movie. Perhaps its because it gets more focused on the action (which is totally awesome as well), but it just sort of felt like it went into a lower gear instead of pressing everything to the max around the end. That said its an extremely enjoyable movie from start to end.

The Incredibles is still a very worthy Pixar movie which I really enjoyed, and if you like Pixar movies in general, then you have to see this one.

November 22nd, 2004 - Gear Up!
So I beat Metal Gear Solid 3 yesterday :D

Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater
I gotta admit it. Im a complete sucker for these kind of games. I cant quite put on what it is that works so amazingly well with the MGS games, but the stealthy gameplay supplied with the awesome cutscenes just work really well. The fact that you get to play a bit, and is then treated with some cutscenes to get pulled further into the story just work really well. Especially since the gameplay truely does work really well on itself, but also because the cutscenes are some of the best found in any game, if not the best, and they made ingame.

Anyway, without spoiling too much, because ALOT of what makes the Metal Gear games so great is the story and their plot twists, then the story is set in the 1960s, in the time after the Cuban missle crisis. You're sent in to rescue a Russian rocket scientist, who is being kept in the Sovjet Union against his will. Anyway, the story gets alot more complex, and the story in this game is really well done, and hold up during the entire game, as opposed to the story of MGS2, which did fuck up by the end of the game.

The gameplay is what you'd expect from a MGS game, yet theres a twist on it. Most of the game you play in the jungle, and this means that you have to think about camoflage and that you dont have a radar anymore. It does take a while to get used to, but once you do then you'll discover that its the most fun that you've ever had in a MGS game. Just sneaking around in the grass and finding ways to sneak up on guards or just slipping past em has never been this fun. Another new gameplay element is that you need to hunt for food in order to keep your stamina full. This also works quite well, since killing animals is basically just a question of seeing them and shooting them, then you go over and pick up the food. Also you now have to fix your body up if you get injured in battle. This works really easily with you simply going into a menu and applying different ways of healing to your injuries. I could have lived without this feature, but I guess it works quite well to establish the sort of survival feel that they try to get. Apart from these things then its MGS as you know it, and it works really well. Theres a bunch of new weapons and gadgets as well, all which are quite cool. Please do note that its not all jungle action, the last portions of the game are more based on urban stuff, in the MGS2 style.

The visual side of MGS3 is top noch as well. I wouldnt be lying if I said that this is one of the best looking games out today, of all formats. It looks really amazing, and you can obviously see that they spend alot of time on it. Every level looks extremely detailed, and you can just see that they spend alot of time trying to make it look unique. Even though most of the textures used are quite low res, then I totally love the entire look of the game, and that goes for MGS2 as well. These games has a really awesome cartoony realism look to them, which work extremely well. The only thing that did nag me about the visuals was that the lipsyncing is a bit off, which tends to make it look a bit odd when people talk, its probably something to do with Konami being too lazy to adjust it from the Japanese to the English lipsyncing. Anyway, this isnt a big thing, and all round this game just look incredible, especially the cutscenes.

The audio is fucking amazing as well. Theres alot of great voice acting to be found in MGS3, where David Hayter once again returns as Snake. Also the music is totally fantastic. Its easily the best music in any MGS game, and its some of the best music Ive seen in a game in recent times. Also all the enviromental sounds are spot on, just listening to them makes you feel like you're in a jungle.

All in all then I cant find much that I dont like about MGS3. If I have to nitpick then it would be that it is a tad short, maybe a tad shorter than MGS2. But the stuff you get in MGS3 is quality stuff, and a total must for anybody whos just shown a little bit of interest in the Metal Gear series.

November 20th, 2004 - Gahyay
Gah, sickbuns is me D:! Thursday night my throat was just hurting like shit, I could barely shallow without having my eyes starting to run, really nasty shit. Also had the worst fucking nite where I had to get up like 20 times to go blow my nose, guess I dont have to say that I didnt really get much sleep there. Anyway, took the day off, and I was supposed to go watch The Incredibles, but I had to cancel that too. Anyway, now I can actually breathe and sometimes taste stuff so Im alright.

So yeah, but yesterday I was simply too fucked up to sit up and play on the computer, so I played Metal Gear Solid 3, which is very nice so far. Then today I pulled myself together and got on with Half-Life 2, and I just completed it.

Half-Life 2
It cant really be a surprise at this point, but Half-Life 2 does indeed rock.

Half-Life 2 looks awesome. Its not really that detailed and hi-poly, but in general then there seems to be alot of consideration behind the visual choices, especially with the lighting, which looks extremely realistic I might add. The character models all look amazing, and their facial animation is revolution in itself, characters in a computer game have never looked this good or real.

However, some of the leveldesign does tend to look a bit too simple for my likings, and I do think that they could've used some more time on a few areas, some of the levels do feel a tad rushed, but in general then the entire feel of the visual side is very coherent. And the choice of making HL2 set in an Eastern European city is just genius, I mea would have guessed that after playing HL1 :). Also the Half-Life 2 water......well, HOT DAMN ITS SEXY!!1one

Also the audio side is topnoch. Some superb voice acting (not for Gordon Freeman, obviously). Also all the enviromental sounds are amazing, and sometimes create that unique experience that Half-Life 2 does end up being. The music is cool too, even though they actually used some of the music from Half-Life 1.

The gameplay is cool too. Its not really that original in some aspects, but the most important addition to HL2s gameplay is the gravity gun, which gives you the power to toss around pretty much anything you find in the world. Its a really neat gadget, and it does make Half-Life 2 stand out, and it also makes for some quite cool puzzles (which HL2 has a bunch of btw). Anyway, the gameplay is pretty straight forward for the most part, but there are some really amazing moments that stray from the otherwise pretty linear first person shooter path. For example when you board a hovercraft like boat and have to use it to guide your way through a series of canals and rivers. Also theres a part of the game where you have to use a buggy to drive around a coast, which provide some more cool stuff.

Even though most of Half-Life 2s gameplay isnt some especially original, then it does have another feel that most first person shooters, especially when you got the physics that can pretty much make each battle feel different every time you play it again.

The story of Half-Life 2 is pretty cool as well, but as some have said it does leave alot of unanswered questions by the end, which will undoubtly be left up to HL3 to answer.

Apart from the singleplayer HL2, then you also get Counter-Strikes: Source with the standard Half-Life 2 pack, which obviously is a pretty damn strong multiplayer side, especially since they made CS sexy with it. It would have been nice with some HL2DM, but I guess that will be for the mod people to make.

So all in all then Half-Life 2 is a really cool game. Its got plenty of cool levels, lots of memorable and very life like characters, amazing and the best use of physics in a game to date just to name a few.

Its not like HL2 is a revolution in gaming history, but it does what a Half-Life 2 sequel should do. It takes the formula of the original and makes even better.

November 14th, 2004 - Very Goo
Lots of games, little time. I thought it would be for the best if I quickly updated the site before the next week opens up (with its shitload of big game releases I might add). Most note worthy is obviously Half-Life 2, but also Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metroid Prime 2 deserves some attention. Anyway, better get to it...

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
I hate saying it, but sometimes its true. This is one of the best games ever made, if not the very best. I dont even think I need to go into details. This game is just so detailed, so full of detail, so huge, so extremely well done that I doubt that anybody wont fall in love with it. The graphics might have its shortcomings, but like Ive always said, then GTA is all about the scale, and considering that you got an entire fucking state in this one, and that its running on a PS2 then this is VERY impressive in my opinion. The graphics work perfectly within the now pretty defined GTA universe. The framerate does tend to be a tad low when theres alot of shit going on, but this is rare and is never in the way for the gameplay.

The sound is top noch as well. As usual then the soundtrack is solid and works extremely well, and what ever taste in music you have, then you should find something that suits you well. Also all the voice acting is superb, boasting some amazing voice acting from both some rather unknown people and some excellent stuff from the more known names. Also all the other sound effects such as vehicles, guns and enviromental sounds are spot on.

The gameplay? Perfect. You got an entire state for a sandbox this time around. The story is extremely well done, and all the missions are so variated that it sometimes just blow your mind. Also, in case you were wondering, then all that stat stuff works like a dream, and adds even more depth to the already deep world of GTA. As I said, the gameplay is perfect, I simply cant find anything to nag about.

If you're gonna get one game this year, then this is it (provided that Half-Life 2 isnt better, which I find very unlikely ;D).

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas | 5 georfs out of 5 georfs

Halo 2
I still somewhat regard the original Halo as a classic in some ways. I say in some ways, because the original Halo was far from perfect in my opinion. There were portions of Halo that have gone into gaming history for its genius, and there were parts that simply sucked so bad that it was hard to believe that it was the same game.

The outdoor missions which contained vehicles were so amazingly kickass in Halo. The settings were always really cool, with lots of space to move around on, and lots of different ways to approach the problems. The part about Halo that more or less has ruined its otherwise positive impression on me, is the indoor stuff. Some of the indoor fights worked well, but Bungies insane use of the "Copy/Paste" leveldesign made the levels so incredibly boring that you just wanted the game to end after playing through the same area for the 10th time. The game itself was solid, Halo's gameplay mechincs are top noch, its a good game at heart, but the reuse of the same rooms just ruined what could and should have been a brilliant game.

Anyway, enough about the past, this is Halo 2, the game that I hoped would correct its mistakes and deliver a Halo game as it should be done.

Boy I was in for a dissapointment.

It seems that Bungie thought that the formula they used for the first game was really good, and the decided to do the same thing all over. Only now you got some new rooms to wander through for 5000 times. And as with the original, the best parts of the game is the stuff where you're outside driving around. I cant understand how they can do this, but apparently people like this safety of playing in the same room over and over, even if it means that they actually sometime go the wrong way because everything looks the same. Whatever. I dont understand it.

But as with the original Halo the core mechanics of the game are rock solid, and work extremely well. There are also some new stuff such as the removal of health, so that you only got the shield this time around. Also, you can now yield two singlehanded weapons at the same time now, which works extremely well I might add.

Appart from the reuse of the same rooms over and over in some parts of the game, then there is some pretty good quality stuff to be found in Halo 2.

The graphics are really amazing at times. Both the indoor and outdoor enviroments look absoultely stunning. Lots of awesome shaders, and some generally good use of normal maps, which sadly has an annoying tendency to pop up ALOT, which more or less ruins some of the ingame cinematic cutscenes. Also all the vehicles, characters and weapons all look great.

The audio is really good too. There some pretty good music in Halo 2, but it does have that very midi'ish sound to it, which constantly made me think that it would've been alot cooler if they had done it orchestral. It is however really good music. All other sounds are cool too, although I am getting a bit tired of the voice acting for that Cortana bitch (or rather the fact that the volume for her is sometimes REALLY low, especially when you're in action and is barely paying attention to whats being said).

Anyway, I dont know if its just me thats being a whiner, but the copy/paste leveldesign just made me tired of this game. Already halfway through I just wanted it to be done with, but the outdoor sections then came to the rescue and revieved my faith in the game. Its sad that they havent put more work into the indoor areas, and made them more variated, because they do work well for the most part, you just cant help shaking that feeling of playing the same stuff over and over away.

I really do hope that Bungie decides to actually scrap the "Copy/Paste" techinique for Halo 3, because I doubt that I'll play another Halo game if they do.

The Terminal
Yes I also had some time to see a movie ;D

Anyway, some of Spielbergs latest movies havent really been on par with some of his earlier work, but they tend to be pretty entertaining nonetheless.

The Terminal falls into this catagory. Its a pretty nice movie about a guy called Viktor Navorski from a made up eastern european country. After all hell breaks lose and its thrown into into war, Viktor, who has just arrived at New York, is held back because he simply doesnt have a nationality anymore, and therefore cant be let into America or leave, is forced to live in the terminal.

It makes a pretty original setting, and some pretty nice scenes with Viktor trying to fit into this uncomfortable place.

The movie does lose some of its charm around the end of the movie though, but all round a pretty entertaining movie.

In case you were wondering, then San Andreas IS better than what anybody could've hoped for, and that means that this is without a doubt, one of the very best games ever made, if not the best, at least in my opinion.

No time to waste on my site, San Fierro requires my attention!

October 24th, 2004 - Bad times
Just saw The Time Machine, the remake of H.G Wells novel.

The Time Machine
Ive only heard bad things about this movie. Hence why I havent seen it until now.

It starts off quite good. The first 20 minutes of the movie show how the good professors girlfriend gets killed when they get mugged by a thief. Him, being a scientific smartass then goes to complete his time machine, and goes back to make things right, however she dies again under different circumstances, and he decides to try and go into the future to try to figure out why he cant change the past (what about trying to change the future more than 2 fucking times fool, eh?). In the future he doesnt find any answers, and he decides to go further into the future, but he is knocked unconscious and then dives a few hundred thousand years into the future. This is where the movie completely screws up.

In this future a group of primitive humans live in these silly huts on the side of cliffs, and luckily for the good professor then they speak english (yeah, english will be the bomb in 800.000 years baby!). Anyway, these people are then being hunted down by these strange hairy beasts, and this is what most of the movie goes with.

The first 20 minutes are promising, if they had continued in this direction, at least had made him go around different places in time it would've been alot more interesting than this. The future he ends up in isnt very interesting, which is quite sad since most of the movie takes place there.

The computer graphics are quite cool tho, and the music is quite good as well.

October 24th, 2004 - Duttelut!?
Been trying to find stuff to make the time pass while I wait, so Ive been playing Codename: Panzers: Phase 1 a bit. Apart from having a really stupid name then this game is actually quite good. There is some really terrible voice acting in it, but apart from that then the graphics, gameplay and audio is very goo. Mazzle review when Im done with this sucker.

Also Ive been playing quite a bit of Burnout 3 lately, and I have aquired a completely new degree of hatred towards the Time Attack mode. Its so fucking pointless, and I seriously cant remember a game where I thought Time Attack was any fun. Its always a crappy lame mode that is put in just to make the game look bigger, and it doesnt really make it any better. Burnout 3 would have been fine without it (I think it would've been better). Also, those normal races with F1 racing cars are so fucking annoying as well. They are fucking impossible to control and you have to drive like a trillion races with em. Gah, thank god Burnout 3 has the Road Rage mode, that alone makes this game a pure winnar!

Hmmm, around 4 days now (If Im lucky enough to get it on Thursday that is)

October 21st, 2004 - That old familiar feeling...
I gotta admit it, I havent been this excited about a game since.......well, probably Vice City. The Grand Theft Auto games are probably the only games left that can make me feel like I did when I was younger. Anyway, with around a week to the European release date, then Im growing more excited by each day that passes by. Even though the release date is on the 29th, then I hope that I can get a copy in the store on the 28th (Shouldnt be too hard if I come right before they close). Also, the plan is to take the 29th off from work, so that means an entire extra day of San Andreas :D!

Dammit I cant wait! D:!

Oh yah, this is cool :)

October 19th, 2004 - Annoyance...
Well, Ive been looking into getting my PS2 chipped in order to play Katamari Damacy (Since Namco are heartless bastards! D:!), but as it seems my PS2 is too old to chip (or rather, the place where I asked didnt recommend doing it). I'll check more into it, but as things are now then I have 2 choices. One is to get a new PS2 with modchips installed, and then pay ALOT to get that done, thats the thing I'll do when I dont have any other alternatives. Another thing Ive been considering is to try out a so called "Slidecard". This is a gadget that you somehow install in your PS2 DVD drive, which enables you to play import games and backup games. Anyway, it does sound a little too easy and a little too good to be true, so Im still looking into it.

Regardless then I really want to be able to play Katamari Damacy, and I somehow doubt that the petition will have any effects, so h4x0ring my PS2 looks like the only real choice I have at this time.

Anyway, /me fiddles

Oh and little over a week until San Andreas! So pwn!

October 16th, 2004 - Katamari Petitiony

October 16th, 2004 - Bourne Supreme!
Time for some bling bling!

The Bourne Supremacy
Even though I liked the first movie, The Bourne Identity, then it didnt really do anything that was that different from the o'so many other action movies theres out there. The sequel on the other hand is alot more interesting and has some totally asskicking action.

Its basically about Jason Bourne (Matt Damon), who gets attacked after hes been hiding for a long while in India with his girlfriend after the events in the first movie. Something *cough* happens to his girlfriend, so now hes out to find out who did it and put them to justice! Well, not quite, but he is after them.

Anyway, the movie is really tense and you constantly feel sort of thrilled cause of the way that Bourne is constantly being hunted down, even though he's mostly one step ahead of them. This leads to some really awesome action scenes, which have a quite realistic feel to them, which in my opinion makes them feel alot stronger than the action found in so many other action movies. Also the story feels more interesting that it was in the first movie. Its more to the point maybe, but it keeps you interested throughout the entire movie. Also you do get the feeling that Bourne isnt very comfortable with the fact that he cant remember much about his past. For examples when he looks himself in the mirror, some nice small details.

So this is really one of the best action movies Ive seen in a long time, and it is a whole lot better than the first movie, check it out!
